Sahara to re-consider Team India Sponsorship

Reliance and Mallya's UB Group have more money than Sahara. I do not expect Pepsi or Coke getting sponsorship just to avoid players clash like it happened in case of Adidas and Nike and also WC 2003 fiasco.

I will support UB Group any day. ;)

1. UB might. But can they afford splurging it on a team sponsorship? I don't think so. Why? Coz among other defaultings, Mr.Mallya's Force India is running on a desperate loan from some creditors and all is not hunky-dory with his airline business too. His beer isn't doing as much business as it once did. Also, it might political, given that you aren't allowed to bear Cigarette and Liquor company brandings on your National gear. So I really doubt UB getting sponsorship.

2. Reliance has a lot of money. But they also own an IPL franchise, which until Sunday was the most expensive one. They have a lot of businesses and the capital sure is there. But I really doubt Mr.Ambani acquiring sponsorship, given the fact that he is reportedly interested in buying Liverpool FC. Even if he's not, I really doubt Reliance bidding for this, coz it doesn't serve them any purpose, nor do they need PR desperately.

I think Videocon might acquire sponsorship as a way to reach their ambitions of entering cricket in a grand way. They've just missed out on the Pune Franchise and BCCI might think is a good way to reward their interest in the sport.

Its going to be a very interesting time in the recent future for Indian cricket :)

UB has enough money. I have seen their accounts.

They will probably loose out due to liquor thing but if that was case they would not have got IPL franchise.

Videocon is good contender as they are moving from consumer durables to new avenues and having India team to promote it will be awesome for them.

I'm too used to Sahara now. But Adidas or Nike won't look bad.

I dont mind Sahara as long as they reduce their logo size on the Indian shirts. Its so ugly! How about Reliance, Airtel, etc (the mobile companies of India)?

The Sahara World Cup 2003 logo was nice. It had the Aamby Valley logo on it then.

Agree with Cricketman, the Sahara logo is stuck with the ICT in my mind from about WC 2003!

Agree !
Also, what comes to my mind is the sponsor-less Team India from the ICC CT 2002

I'm too used to Sahara now. But Adidas or Nike won't look bad.

Adidas cannot enter the fray as Nike already have the merchandising rights for the team.

As somemone suggested Videocon[hot pick] could be another option. Or a multi-national likie Toyota or HSBC might also enter the auction.

Exactly why I don't want them to sponsor India! :p Would be so weird for the company to sponsor sports' biggest rivals!

I'm really surprised they chose to sponsor Pakistan too; Pepsi's CEO Indra Nooyi is our neighbor down in Chennai and she's a pretty big cricket fan...Indian cricket especially, of course!
I think that's Pepsi India CEO - since each country (well almost each country) has a subsidary of the Pepsi company, it is very easily possible for Pepsi Pakistan to sponsor Pakistan, and Pepsi India to sponsor India.

Although I do agree with you, it would be very strange and awkward to see on the cricket field and I hope it doesn't happen just for that reason.

Oh oops, I guess I was wrong lol

But I think my point still stands that the different subsidaries of Pepsi can theoretically sponsor their respective cricket teams.

I base this on the fact that in 2006, Pepsi had adboards in the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka, and it said Pepsi Pakistan on them.

And of course India definitely has its own subsidary of Pepsi.

I'm used to see sahara logo.
It's okay to see it for 3 more years.

I think this time they have to pay more money per match.

This time round, they could very well use the logo of some other venture...Like in 2003,they used the Aamby Valley logo....Lets see what they come up with.
