I am going to write to PCL team that WC should be banned from keeping or fielding. His size is too big for any opponent batsmen to hit runs past him. :facepalm :p

Oh, I belong to BB team. For a moment I thought this is IW thread :D

Vatican Victors vs. Beijing Blitzers

PCPL Semi Finals - First Leg

@ The Pope's Backyard

The stadium is abuzz with excitement as the first game of the PCPL semi-finals is about to get underway! It's a chilly day here in Vatican, and the pitch is tinged with green, while the outfield is bullet quick. Definitely should be some good cricket on offer here. This game is the most anticipated of the semis. Beijing and Vatican don't really like each other, and have had some terrific encounters so far. Don't expect this to be any less. Beijing have won the toss, and have elected to bowl. KI and Kapil Dev walk out to face the new ball in these tricky conditions, and lets head to the ground...

The final scorecard for first innings was :
Score: 160
Wickets : 7
Overs : 20.0

Vatican will be pleased with that, they'll be very pleased with that. A competitive 160 posted in difficult batting conditions, and a very good chance to go 1-0 up in the Semi Finals. KI and Dev got Vatican off to a pretty good start, negating the new ball and scoring decently, till Suren struck twice in the same over. But Guddu upped his game when it mattered the most and scored an excellent 66. Shan supported him from the other end well and gave him as much strike as he could, while late cameos from WC and Treva took Vatican to exactly 160. Beijing took wickets frequently but couldn't stem the flow of runs, the biggest culprit being Shantanu who was hammered by his former team mates. Manee and Suren bowled well, and together ensured Vatican never ran away with a large score. But still, 161 to win is a daunting ask on a pitch offering plenty of support for Vatican's all seam attack. But Beijing have conquered large scores before and have pulled off several shocking wins, Vatican will need to avoid getting complacent as Beijing could very well run away with this game. 160 is a good score, but it might not be good enough. Stay tuned as we return with Bejing's reply...

And we're back as Beijing are in pursuit at 161 to beat Vatican in this first leg of the Semi-Finals. A win here is extremely crucial for both sides -none of them will want to be playing catch-up in the second round, least of all Vatican, who will be playing away from home. Dean Jones and Kalu have made it out to the middle, the crowds are roaring in excitement, and we're underway...

The final scorecard for second innings was :
Score: 151
Wickets : 7
Overs : 20.0

And VV have done it! They go one up in the semi finals, and are one step closer to defying the odds and lifting the PCPL championship! As for Beijing, well, they'll be ruing a horrific top order collapse where they lost 6 wickets for 17 runs in the space of 16 deliveries, five to der Bijl, including 3 in 4 balls. Dev picked up the sixth one as Beijing were reduced to 44/6 within the powerplay.
However, they didn't just role over and die, as Manee and Bracewell went on. Manee flashed his blade and stole quick singles while Bracewell used his experience to milk the field and occasionally find the fence as VV's intensity faded. Out of nowhere, Bracewell struck 3 consecutive fours off Treva, and Manee two in two off Abhas in the next over, taking the equation to 28 needed off 4 overs and giving Beijing a glimmer of hope. But it wasn't to be as Massie and WC gave nothing away, and 21 needed off 2 was too large a task in the end for Beijing. Manee got his fifty off the last ball as VV got home by 9 runs!

Man of The Match - Gudduthemaster for his fantastic 66. But spare a thought for Manee, who took 3/20 and scored a fifty in a losing cause.
