Ricky wouldn't give it up - no chance in hell. Unless forced too...But who would? No one has the nuts to. And theres no point anyway, they should of gone with Warne in the first place - then none of this would of happened.

Strauss, Peitersen, Flintoff? Gee, they came out good lengthy captains didn't they.

Don't diss a captain who is yet to captain when your ones are useless.

According to me it will depend on the result, because he lost in Eng last time,if he looses Ashes in Eng this time, they might think on it,last time when he lost, many people specially in Aus were saying that Warne should be the captain and Ponting should be dropped, lets see..

He was in charge for the only series England have won against sides other than New Zealand and West Indies since 2005 - Pakistan in 2006. Then England decided to pander to Flintoff's demands and we lost that series 0-2.

To put Strauss as a captain into perspective, Vaughan NEVER beat any of Pakistan, Sri Lanka or India in a Test as captain. Strauss may have lost the series in West Indies while Vaughan mopped them up regularly, but it's hardly Strauss' fault the pitches were flat as pancakes and that England somehow contrived to capitulate for 50. England capitulated for 81 under Vaughan, he was lucky and it didn't cost him that Test although England still lost the series. It isn't the first time England have inexplicably capitulated

Strauss (Captain)

vs West Indies : P7 W2 D4 L1
vs Pakistan : P4 W3 D1 L0
Overall : P11 W5 D5 L1 (Won 45.45%)

*I think the last verdict of the ICC was that the abandoned Test where Pakistan threw their toys out of their prams was an England win, but it may soon change back again

Vaughan (Captain)

vs Australia : P5 W2 D2 L1
vs South Africa : P12 W4 D3 L5
vs PAK/IND/SRI : P11 W0 D7 L4

vs New Zealand : P8 W6 D1 L1
vs West Indies : P11 W10 D1 L0
vs Bangladesh : P4 W4 D0 L0

vs AUS/SAF/PAK/IND/SRI : P28 W6 D12 L10 (Won 21.43%)
vs NZE/WIN/BAN : P23 W20 D2 L1 (Won 86.96%)

Overall : P51 W26 D14 L11 (Won 50.98%)

20 of Vaughan's 26 wins as captain (76.92%) were against the weaker Test nations. Don't be fooled by his overall record, or England losing to West Indies in West Indies. Granted he produced two of England's best series wins in a long time, but then so did Hussain in Pakistan and Sri Lanka and he doesn't get half the credit Vaughan does despite winning without Flintoff - all because he didn't get to thrash Bangladesh or West Indies regularly to boost his record.

Hussain (Captain)

vs AUS/SAF/PAK/IND/SRI : P31 W10 D10 L11 (Won 32.26%)
vs NZE/WIN/BAN/ZIM : P14 W7 D3 L4 (Won 50.00%)

Overall : P45 W17 D13 L15 (Won 37.78%)

Hussain's record against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India was pretty much the opposite of Vaughan's - P17 W7 D7 L3. He suffered a bit at the hands of a then handy New Zealand side though, was he in charge when England couldn't get out the Kiwi tail in New Zealand and drew the series? West Indies had the likes of Walsh, Ambrose and Lara when England beat them for the first time in a long time under Hussain. BUT the main comparison is between Strauss and Vaughan as they are closer eras and opponents to compare. That said, the Pakistan side that lost so easily in 2006 was relatively poor.

You can already tell he is going to be a great captain after just looking at what he's done in the twenty20 arena. He is a brilliant cricket brain. Of course everyone respects him.

Ponting is a good captain with A LOT of pride.

Trust me, the day he is no longer captain of Australia, is the day that Ponting is retired from cricket altogether.

Flintoff Rocks is right, Ponting will give it up when he retires or is forced to retire. Even if they lose the Ashes he will still be captain for the homes series against Windies and Pak

The problem is that the Vice Captain isn't consistent enough to lead them. Ponting leaving wouldn't help the team at all.

Ponting will retire when his batting has reached the end of the road. He knows that Australia never (or very rarely) keep their ex captains in the side once they've retired the captaincy, so it'll be when he's ready to retire from International cricket, which I can't see happening for at least a year now, maybe retire after his next home Ashes series.

Ponting has already said he would quit if the captaincy was taken off him. I think hes a good captain - he gets a lot of unfair crap. Strauss on the other hand looks like he has no idea - opening the bowling with his weakest bowler broad every session to allow the runs to flow before he brings on his one and only good bowler flintoff....how about in the second session yesterday - he didnt bowl flintoff in the first hour which is by which time the game had already been taken away from them. It wont take much to outfox strauss this series.

Ponting will play for ages...he will play till he takes all the batting records, as he richly deserves, as hes no doubt the best modern day batsman.

Its so telling when you see strauss's stupid idotic grin in the field whilst england drift away into mediocrity, devoid of ideas. He's just another ra ra, wibbly wobbly public school boy given the task because no one else can fill the shoes. With his appointment the ashes were always on there way back to australia. Im pretty much (as far back as records can get) as english as you'll get and am constantly disappointed in the supposed sportsman who represent our country. All credit to Australians who'll fight both tooth and nail to up hold thier national sporting pride. You are more than worthy sporting opponents and rightful holders of the ashes (even if only because you actually care more!)
