Should we have a Test World Cup?

What do you guys think?
We have the ODI World Cup which has been going on for 30 odd years now.
I think we should have a Test World Cup. This will really show who is the best of the best. Who can rise to the biggest stage of them all. All we have now is sides touring each others countries and no test tournaments at all.
At the moment, all of the tournaments are for ODI cricket. We need some tournaments in test cricket.

We could set aside half a year every 4-5 years to hold this tournament. Held in 1 or 2 countries to see who is the best of the best. We'll have all of the current test nations competing.

Just remember, test cricket is the most important part of cricket. It's how cricket started. 5 day matches. In whites.

What do you guys think? Post your thoughts.

Are you bored with winning everything else?

I just wanna add it to this collection. :p

Isn't the current structure of international cricket like a continuous World Cup, there is rankings for every team and every test team plays every other test team in a cycle.

The Australia vs World XI series was probably as close to a Test World Cup final as there would need to be, it would be very difficult to schedule a final because at the moment it would be an Australia vs England match, which happens every two seasons anyway.

There is also the concern of cricket overload, the players' schedule is already very packed, a Test World Cup would add unnecessary extra matches to it, which isn't good for cricket.

I guess. Then the top 2 and the end of the ranking period (say 4-5 years) can play off in a test series at a neutral venue.

What I meant for the Test World Cup is that you take out half a year of fixtures so you can play it.

As great as it would be, it would take way too long. The current format at least gives us everyone playing each other on a regular basis, so it's good enough for me.

you would have to set aside plenty of time to play this test world cup, because i guess as soon as a team looks to be in a losing position they would go for the draw, provided they were good enough. and given how poorly run the odi world cup was, a test world cup would be an invitation for disaster.

Abolish one day cricket, play a simple knock out test cup based on seedings. Everybodys happy, well apart from people who prefer ODI's but their hardly cricket fans are they :p

I dont think so,the Test match standings are good enough for me.

Doesn't sound too bad, but I'm fine with ODI cricket, I say turn this stupid Twenty20 rubbish into more Test time.

You can't make a judgement on Twenty20 cricket yet. If you were in England had seen the wonder that is the Twenty20 Cup then sure, you have that right. But Australian domestic teams don't take the Big Bash seriously enough. Wait until the T20 WC this Autumn.

It's irrelevant, you couldn't put more than a couple of Tests in the space of time that the T20s fit.

A test world cup would be a nice idea but I imagine a nightmare to implement, especially from the time point of view.

Maybe invite the top 8 nations into a straight knock-out tournament played on similar wickets. Would only mean a maximum of 35 days of cricket, which could be fit into 40 days if the games are played simultaneously (not sure how t.v. execs would feel about this though).

Would also have to have some kind of points system to decide drawn matches. I'm a not a fan of going with highest first innings scores, perhaps something modelled on the CC system would work as it would reward run scoring as well as wicket taking.

The more you go into it the more problems that creep up.
