Should we have a Test World Cup?

I don't know about that. If it were to be played in England or Australia I think they could make some money out of it, but as with all large sporting events, it would come down to how they market it (not to mention a fair ticket pricing policy).

On the other hand, would they necessarily have to make money from it? Surely the effects of an exciting tournament, showcasing all that's good about test cricket would yield far greater dividends in the long term. Lets convert all the 20/20 fans for a start.

I think it'd have to be a kind of 4 team affair, maybe the top 4, or it could be implemented by the past winners of the cups, such as the WC, CT and the T20 WC

But i dont think it'd work, as really the time would be horrific, i mean a lot of people said the WC was too long, think if the top 8 test teams played, even if it was a knock out you'd still have 7 matches of 35 days, plus time in between games, so it'd be going nearly 2 months, if it was more than 8 teams, well it goes and goes.

Well i think it would be better than a one day world cup or a 2020 world cup, but it would take forever, probably a year or so to complete, so you would have to only have it once every 8 or 12 years rather than every 4...

Like I said though the only real way to have 8 teams in a knock out format would be to have matches played simultaneously - which in turn upsets the t.v men.

The problem in inviting past winners is that it would be Australia, Australia A and so on!

We'll just bring Shane Warne, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Allan Border etc back. :p

not to mention the fact that it would detract from the ashes experience once the inevitable australia v england fixture was to be held.

This idea has come up a hell of alot of times before, and even though it would seem nice, it's completely unrealistic. It's just too difficult and too long to play so many Tests like that.

What wouldn't be a bad idea is to have a Test series between the 2 top teams each year/ 2 years or something like that.

Good point, i was just about to say they play often in ICC Champions trophy and other stuff, but that doesn't count cos its ODI...

Just wouldn't work with it being way too long and to get the crowds turning up would be a problem. With it being so long a lot of fans won't be able to turn up to every single match that their team plays in. And then you have the not so die hard fans that prefer going to the game for only one day not going for the full 5 days leaving alot of empty seats and a big struggle to make a profit.

It's been brought up as a possibility by the ICC to keep test cricket alive. But if all series are going to be 3 tests I'm not for it. A 3 test Ashes series would be crap.

I hope they just keep test cricket as it is. Much better. Screw fiddling with it. Only thing I might be okay with coming in is Day/Night tests, but I'm still not convinced by it.

Totally agree. I don't like all this get rid of 50 over cricket talk either, keep cricket the way it is at the moment.

No, changes do need to be made, just not this drastically. ODi series should be shortened to 3 match series, these 5 and 7 ODi series and triangular tournaments are ridiculous. You could then have 1 or 2 T20's alongside the 3 ODi's. This would cut down the ridiculously packed player schedule, which I believe would improve the overall standard of cricket played. We also need to stop having a T20 WC every year, it's pointless, completely takes away the achievement of winning a WC if there's one the next year. The Test countries boards also need to be stricter on their contracted players, stopping them going to the IPL if they're carrying injuries or have a particularly busy schedule in the near future.

Also there needs to be some sort of fining system in place for the National board if they consistently produce god-awful, flat slow pitches. The reason pitches are getting flatter is because of the money, so if you fine a board for a shockingly flat pitch, they'll soon incentivise the domestic groundsmen for making a pitch that offers an even contest between bat and ball. Flat pitches producing boring Tests is what's going to kill Test cricket, and something needs to be done about it.

Day/Night Tests are a rubbish idea as well. The last thing I want to see is a Test match played in coloured clothes with a white ball. Eugh.
