South Africa tour of India 2022(5 T20Is)

Well let us just get it clear cut out. This is a grassroot level problem of Indian Cricket and this can't change unless people at junior level are said to bat that way.

We have players like Yashasvi Jaiswal & Shivam Dube who are clean strikers of the Cricket ball.

We have a Prithvi Shaw who scores a boundary almost every over. Pant and Hardik are clearly in that category but they are being said to tone down.

The approach and the mindset together needs to change with regards to this format ig.

I am a huge Pant fan but handing him the captaincy in the white ball format without him having achieved anything is just bogus for me. You devalue the armband for mine and I am no stats guru but I do not remember Pant playing one memorable knock in the blue jersey to date.

I would never want to advocate Pant for India's Captaincy after what has transpired in his couple of stints as IPL Captain. He is just a poor leader and certainly doesn't know to handle the pressures of Captaincy.

I just don't understand his game plan as a batter when he is a Captain. He just plays out too many dots and doesn't even rotate strike. It gives me exactly the vibes MSD used to give during 2017-18. What made the difference is the latter's ability to remain calm and actually pull things off when it mattered.

On to this match and the series as a whole.... I don't think I have seen such a poor Indian outfit for ages! This team isn't just there when it comes to quality. Even the current Afghanistan team can dominate this side. They've been that poor!

This side is missing four first team batters to be fair. While our strength in depth should ensure a better performance I don’t feel like they’re particularly playing very badly. Our issue as always lies with our outdated approach to T20Is which I don’t see changing anytime soon.

Also, I have no idea why Pretorius is batting at three when RvD is in the shed. Makes sense to lengthen your batting order when attempting a record chase but not when the total is manageable and having a far better batsman settle in is more valuable. Pretorius the batter is hardly special either.

Time for whining trivia -

1. Hardik Pandya proving the rumors of IPL final being fixed by Amit Shah to be true.

2. IPL stars can't perform in international cricket. Just get over this fact and start picking team as you have been doing for past several decades. Pick deserving and hardworking players from domestic circuit.

3. Rahul, Rohit & Virat missing out on another important series. Specially captains, trying to safeguard their captaincy records.

END OF WHINING.

Another huge series defeat loading for India!! With the kind of consistency Ruturaj is showing, he cant be anywhere near the Indian LOI side for quite sometime, until the seniors retire (and even then, he'll have huge competition from the more aggressive batters). He can easily be outgunned by the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Yashashwi Jaiswal, etc (apart from the likes of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan).

On the contrary, DK looked pretty good and gave the total some respectability. He needs to play more this series and be given the chance to stake a serious claim for that WC spot.

Hardik is not captaining the team here. How is #1 relevant? I too had those thoughts appear fleetingly in my mind during the IPL, but I also was impressed mostly with Hardik the captain from that IPL more than Hardik the batsman (which is the role he's performing in this current series).

On #2, its going to be tougher and tougher to not have IPL influence international selection. The tournament has a huge shadow over world cricket right now. Even other countries often pick players for their national teams based on IPL/their own franchise league performances. We just have to accept the new reality that franchise leagues will feed into the national LOI teams for the nearly 'distant' future.

1# is very relevant for the fact that the management picked him based on his IPL performance irrespective of whether he is a captain or not. Mind you, he was dropped for his performance in international cricket. He has continued to be the same self since his comeback. Now don't expect management to give him captaincy just because he performs best as captain and not a regular player.

#2 has costed us the WC. Remember the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy? Or Venkatesh ? And probably upcoming WC too if these issues are not addressed.

I don't buy the fact that our first string team is not playing. We are essentially missing Bumrah and SKY. Rohit, Kohli and Rahul are all neutered T20 batters.

The problem with this Indian team is Iyer. In T20 cricket, your own batter can cost you wickets and he did a fine job of that today. Put Hooda at 3. It will also give you a bowling option and Rahul Dravid really needs to guide Rishabh Pant for me. He is all over the place in every department.

Amen!

I would have never dropped Bishnoi for Chahal based on the IPL. Bishnoi got lesser wickets in the IPL because teams just look to play him out.

With all due respect I think Chahal is a mighty fine bowler in T20s and what gets him going is his confidence level which most of the spinners lack in modem day Cricket. I don't think it could be a wise move to ever keep him out of any white ball Cricket as a whole.

He does give away runs but on his days he just picks up 2-3 sometimes even 4 wickets which is absolute gold considering the fickle format!

Somehow want India to win today but considering the approach of the batters it seems highly unlikely. South Africa would truly be high on confidence and would want to finish things and take the series today itself.

Considering the slowness of Vizag pitch, an additional spinner might come handy. Perhaps the line-up I wanted India to play from the 1st T20I itself may provide the best balance.
