Earlier getting the maximum wickets in cricket was meant only for fast bowlers but these days spinners are overtaking them in this record. What you guys think about it?

I think this is just the result of a few top quality spinners sprouting at the same time. Players of the calibre of Warne, Muralitharan and, to a certain extent, Kumble, could have easily played in different generations and then this wouldn't be that noticeable.

It's also probably sue to the amount of cricket being played. Spinners can bowl more overs, and don't tire as easily as pace bowlers.

But they do take longer to get wickets in term of strike rate.

Spinners are very handy in One-Day cricket because they get through their overs quickly, which makes the batsmen rush because their time to score runs is fading away.

Ahhh my kinda thread!

Spinners are very technical, and when you use us can really screw up a team, oh what am i kidding, we ace! specially LALS, hmmmm Left arm leg spin was that ;)

Yeah, but generally fast bowlers do much better than spinners in ODIs with the exception of Murali.

spinners bowl far more overs, making it much easier for them to achieve such goals

ohhhhh, how dare you, my own Cricsim team mate, Spinners bowl more overs because we dont do a big run up, but who has more shoulder, arm and wrist trouble ?? Spinners! because we bowl for the team and slow things down, u stupid quickies :p just bowl at top pace and usually get a couple, i love geting 5 for's and the occasional 10fer!

Sorry to double post!

i bowl right arm leg spin, and i just do a walk up like warne thn bowl with alot of power and i normay get 2 or 3 wickets a match :D and i got a ball off the internet that tellls you how fast you bowl in kph and then i transfered it into mph and i bowl at 35mph, not that fast for a spinner, but its good for a walking up then bowling :D

Spinners build up the pressure (Or should do) which often leads to the batsmen playing a bad shot and getting out. This can obviously only be done over a longer period anyway.

Yeah i agree, when im used i usually try to just slow them down, set myself a target, if i have a 10 over spell i will say maybe only got for 20 runs, and hope to pick up 2-3 wickets, set standards high, you'll reach them in time

I liked spin, but prefer pace. It is more than running up and bowling - I used to think that too. You actually have to get into a rythem, make a good leap each time, right hand and wrist positions, hard work. And so is legspin. Heck, offspin is the only type of bowling which one can do in their sleep :p

I blame new-type coaching. Fast bowlers are made into more methodical medium-pacers. Can't have their own action, are yelled at if they focus to hard on bowling pure pace or trying to swing the ball hard. See all the leading pace bowlers in history. Bar Mcgrath (Who does get good bounce), most of them were either very quick, had great swing, or both. New generation seamers aren't allowed to do that.
Also, spin is less of a mystery than it used to be. Ask any 15 year old, they can bowl a doosra, armball, googly, flipper, topspinner, everything!

i have no problem playing pace or swing bowling, infact i love pace bowling, when i was younger i wouldnt let a spinner bowl to me, but at the level i play at, the spinners are excellent, and there are few and far beetween, its the spinners that now usually trouble me. Since im a very careful batsman (Atheron, Dravid type of style), when the spinners come on, my runs slow down even more.

Way tougher to play spinners..

What is so dificult about it to you? I love playing spinners, easy to get under the ball and loft it, or just block it.
