I almost think that there should be a rule that, all people willing to start a story must send a plan to one of the story mods along with a few updates to show that they actually willing to stick the story out and have somewhere to go with a storyline.

Yes,Maybe something like what happens in "Cricket News Members' Articles," sub forum. Let the mods decide that can the member start and finish the story respectively or not and for that each story would have to get mod approval for getting posted.

Alright below mentioned changes are likely to implemented from next month,

1) Till now, we did have soft corners for writers like - Closing the previous incompleted story thread & allowed writers to start a new one on various reasons basis. From now, it is not going to happen.

Whatever may be the case ( except the completed one ) - Writers cannot exceed two threads at maximum. No deletion of all posts too during the next attempt of starting another one in new thread. Yes, strictly no deletion or no closing of threads. If any such occurence is found, we(mod team) will merge it without any notification.

2) SOTM would be no-more taking place on monthly basis. It will be done every 3 months once. i.e 4 times in a year. Nominee of these will get a pass to PC annual award nomination, provided story continues to be in active state.

( Rules, Rewards & other details will follow up soon )

Your time to give a shout! :)
That means, it should be renamed to
Story Of Three Months;)

I echo it.
Just a plan on how they're gonna go through should be given to mods before they start a particular story.

And One more addition to it. Just restrict the privileges of normal members to just view and reply to this forum, not let them open the thread.
A mod should open it and transfer it to the one requesting it.
If that happens, All these story of 3 months etc. etc. can be ignored and let the original plan go on as we won't be having many stories which are being started for a title sake.

That is not possible as people CAN stop the stories by starting a thread too. No one can predict whether a story is gonna finish or not:).
And if my suggested system is implemented, it is not at all a problem:).

Binnu added 15 Minutes and 42 Seconds later...

I've PMed Both Suren Bhai and King Cricket ,explaining how my plan works out in detail.:)

1) Well mod queue for each and every writer & for every post is painsome.
2) Access rights for starting threads in story forums - I need to discuss this with admins & then will get back to you.
3) Added to the above, creating new stories without continuing the previous one is just not the mistake among newbies alone.

Since many experienced writers are here around, writers are always free to share the ideas/suggestions with them.

But I do know that - There is still internal competency going on between some writers ( i don't want to mention the name ) even in sharing the fonts.

From the experience the lesson learnt by me from m_vaughan(sid) - Some Stories are here to share the ideas between them and not for owning or fighting for the innovative outcome.

So next month there will be no SOTM?

We need to finalize this first & stop the inconsistency among the writers.

Like I said, it would be painsome. Since I go undependable on weekdays, & less activity of mods here, approval will turn as the number 1 obstacle after few days.

New rules always look promising for first few days :p

I won't be allowed to start a story. I like to make mine up as I go along, and the small catastrophies make it exciting.

Hang on, none of the rules are finalized. We( between mods separately & between members here ) are still in the discussion phase. :)

Well, I've said in pm about the inactiveness of mods may be a problem and even I've explaned an answer for it.
And yeah! Even some oldies stop their stories not completing them fully.
And bhai, one suggestion! Take a decision asap cos the summer in India is getting near!

You can expect a final word on the new system by this weekend :)

New Set of rules.
Bit Confusing but good idea. And what about user titles bro?
Will the SOTM get usertitle for a month?

I would like to know the confusing part. I would be happy to explain that :)

Will the SOTM get usertitle for a month?

No, it's clearly mentioned :)

Award for SOTM

1) Thread getting stuck for a month
2) Vcash of 200K.

Award of SOTQ

1) Winner(First) gets SOTQ - First/Second/Third/Fourth Quarter tag for 3 months.
2) Vcash of 750K

So the user title would be only for SOTQ.

Shouldn't the award for SOTQ be 200k? I really like the new rules. Especially, the ones regarding the commitment and everything. Thanks a lot staff members.

SOTM(once in every month) gets 200K and SOTQ( once after every 3 months ) gets 750K.

Yeah the rules are great and will work out really well. I feel shortening the poll period is great as there would be very less asking of votes.

Our intention was to - AVOID asking of votes completely. There is also a mention of one such point,

Note : If any such issues are observed by any member, you can report to us with the evidence. It can be either a screenshot of VM or PM or Mail or MSN or Yahoo or any messenger request. Just report to us, & we would take care of it. The person reporting with the appropriate evidence would be offered a good reward.

Hmmm.. I'll be striking out what I've understood and will be underlining what I've not understood:)
Regular SOTM

1) SOTM will take place every month.
2) Staffs would be selecting the nominee & poll system to decide the SOTM winner ( same as the current )
3) The duration of SOTM polling is 3 days. Mostly it would include the weekends - Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No more dragging of the contest to 20 days & bringing in the people to vote somehow from somewhere.

New Fairplay System in SOTM :

1) The top three who makes to pole position ( 1 - 2 - 3 ) would be awarded 5, 3 and 1 point(s) respectively.
2) The points will get carried to next month too. This inturn means - No criteria in not getting nominated if you win one SOTM. The same story can be nominated in next month's poll provided, it stays active with same top efforts/consistency.

What does fairplay points do?

It gets carried forward to the next month & form a base for the nomination of Story Of The Quarter. Yes, We would be having SOTQ as well i.e. every 3 months.

How does SOTQ works?

1) The top 3 stories from the fairplay points would be nominated for SOTQ poll
+ the story that wins the playoff poll.

2) The idea here would be to put up a poll for the first few days of the voting week with all the stories in SOTM over the last three months other than the top 3, and the winner would also go in to the overall poll, so if a good story just misses out on making it into the top 3, members could nominate it in. This poll duration would be for three days - Mon, Tue, Wed.

3) The poll duration for SOTQ would be 5 days - Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon.

So, same maximum number of votes get SOTQ award?

1) No, it just counts 50%.
2) Remaining 50% is calculated based on evaluation which would be,

a) Commitment as a writer ( Points out of 10 ) - This also includes the writers' attitude of taking the readers' comment and improving accordingly.
b) Quality of a story ( points out of 10 ) - This also includes the writers' tendency to take the story in long runs with consistency.
c) Presentation and Other Innovative stuffs ( Points out of 10 ) - Not only the graphics part, but the way writer presents the story to the readers.
d) Story Line ( points out of 20 ) - Bottom line of every story.

3) To evaluate these, a panel of members would be formed ( TBD ).

Award for SOTM

2) Vcash of 200K.

Award of SOTQ

1) Winner(First) gets SOTQ - First/Second/Third/Fourth Quarter tag for 3 months.
2) Vcash of 750K.

First Quarter - Jan, Feb, March
Second Quarter - April, May, June
Third Quarter - July, August, Sep
Fourth Quarter - Oct, Nov, Dec

Why don't we rename the "Fair Play Points" with Just "Points" to make everyone understand easily?
And Why don't we consider the number of Votes a story has got as the Fair Play points?

Now a days, each and every SOTM since August 2008 is running equally, excepting the December one, So, why don't we make the Number of Votes as No of Fair Play Points?

And I don't know why these Fair Play points thingy is being introduced.

Why don't we Nominate Each Months Runners and Winners into SOTQ? [Something like Champions League T20, the runners and winners will advance to a new competition.]
And if SOTQ results in a Tie, The number of votes they've got in SOTM can be calculated.

Not that this has to be implemented, as there might be some drawbacks even in my system away from my knowledge, but its upto the Administration.

But bro, don't think deep into it as already, it has been couple of weeks, the discussion about SOTM is going on. So, better to stay with the new implemented system.:)
If I were Suren Bhai, I'd have just ruled out all the suggestions being given after the changes made as its already 3 weeks, on which discussion is going on:p:p
