I do have faith in Hardik being better in the WC if he regains confidence, he’s someone capable of rising to meet expectations when fit and confident. Something is bothering him in the IPL and it wouldn’t surprise me if the MI family isn’t as harmonious as it is portrayed to be. Having said that, it doesn’t matter if there’s no alternative to him if he performs like he’s doing in the IPL now. You’d be forced into dropping him regardless.

It’s weird that there haven’t been a lot of true all rounders, they’re the demographic I expected to see get hit the least by the impact sub. I assume teams are opting to play an overseas player for that role if they don’t have a very good domestic option.
Hardik played well against England in the last semi final. Only reason India were in it, before England batted.

Seems like Gujarat aren't having a much better season without him either.

JUST IN: Australia have left out Jake Fraser-McGurk and Steve Smith from their provisional squad for the #T20WorldCup

The opening pair of Fraser-McGurk and Head would have been awesome to watch.

Looks like Scotland will be missing 3 of their county cricket players who, I assume will be playing in the T20 Blast.

I wonder how this might impact Netherlands.

Wonder why no one’s making any sort of fuss over this. It’s one thing to miss a qualifier (which was already ridiculous), it’s another to miss out on the damn World Cup.

Hardik’s stepped up previously when needed for India, just hasn’t had the results to show for it. That was when he had confidence which he seems to be currently lacking.

Truthfully GT was overachieving for the last two seasons. Shami’s absence has also hit them hard.

South Africa should have picked Burger over Baartman, but I can understand why they'd want a death bowler specialist. Ferreira should have been around somewhere- very utility cricketer with 4D potential. Don't know why Fortuin (a 3rd pure spinner) was needed in the squad. Ferreira, Stubbs and Markram as part time options in addition to Shamsi and Maharaj would have sufficed.

Why would Quinton de Kock not start? It's between Rickelton and Hendricks for 1 spot imo.

Baartman deserves to play after his outstanding SA20. The one I would have dropped was Nortje but I assume they’re counting on him turning into prime Donald at yet another WC. Fortuin is a bit of a weird pick, don’t know why they keep persisting with him and it’s extremely unlikely they’ll drop Jansen to play him or play him ahead of the pace trio and the spin duo.

Rickelton has been fantastic in the recent tournament. The only place that has been big on Quinny’s first team status is r/cricket so I’m already leaning towards benching him.

IIRC, changes are allowed to be made until 25th May so CA might bring him in after all. Not sure whats Starc doing in there on current form except that the selectors have went for the reputation from the past glory. Left arm variety as well.

Bartlett is the one I would assume coming in for him if they want a replacement. Would prefer Cummins and Ellis to be fixed starters and one of Hazlewood and Starc to play depending on the opposition. Could even go for Agar if they want two frontline spinners.
