The Cricketer 2008

Welcome to the Cricketer 2008, This is the game show on channel 5 where 12 people try to prove they are the best for a contract with Hampshire A team and a cash prize of £100,000. Over 5,000 applicants tried out for a spot but only 14 people managed to convince the judges that they were worthy to win the prize. Lets meet the judges!

MacWorld- A presenter for Channel 5’s live cricket matches. This guy knows his cricket.

Mike Gatting- Former England captain, he led England to many wins so he definitely knows who is worth of a prize like this.

Andrew Caddick- Former England fast bowler, Andrew defiantly knows which of these guys to get out early

Let’s meet the contestants:

Adam Hornbuckle (Task Complete)
Randy Red (Task Complete)

MacWorld: Good Morning, welcome to the cricketer 2008, this is the show where 12 contestants fight it out for a place in Hampshire’s A team and a £100,000 cash prize. As you may have noticed I said 12. There are 14 of you which means this week I am eliminating 2 people. This week your challenge is to survive a net session. You must show me that you know how to bat and bowl in this net session. Those that fail to do so will see me tomorrow in the pavilion. Good Luck!

After a long net session macworld is not impressed. He gives you a task to write a minimum of 150 words about how you could have improved as your batting technique was not very good and your bowling was to short.

MacWorld: That was abysmal, you have till Monday 12:00pm GMT to complete this task, please post it in the thread or pm me if you wish.

RE: The Cricketer
Adam Hornbuckle

I know I can improve, I know I can. I have been playing on smaller pitches with my club side and it really shows. I used to be a wicket-keeper you see, but I broke my arm two years ago and my coach said I wouldn't be able face such pace. I learnt how to bowl last year and I think I have come on leaps and bounds. I have worked more on accuracy than pace, but as I said earlier I have been playing on shorter pitches.

As for my batting, I have always been a bit jagged, a bit rough around the edges. I don't make any excuse for my poor batting today, I didn't think the bowlers would be that good. They were superb, much better than the club bowlers I play against. They got lots of swing and spin, and I was trying to whack every ball. I can't do that if I am going to win this show. I need to work on my defence, especially against spin. Thats all I have to say, thank you for reading.

Good Morning. As you know, am one of the contestants of The Cricket 2008, am here to complete my first task given by the presenter Macworld. We really had a tough hours for a long time today,yh it means we were in Nets today. We were trained hard to improve our both skills. But thats sad to hear that Macworld wasn't happy on seeing our net sessions. At the beginning we had some Warm up.And next i chosen to start with defensive shots. And i got to know how to defense the ball before it hits the stumps.Afterwards, i have really got to know about some Aggressive shots like Hook, pull,Sweep,Reverse Sweep,Front Foot and Back Foot shots today through the net sessions. All i can say is am now 75% prepared for the contest.

I also had some Bowling Nets as me myself loved to see me as a part-time bowler.Just now i came to know that Bowling is really hard. And all the tricks like swinging are really tough jobs.So i will be getting prepared for this contest to show Macworld,Mike Gattin and Andrew Caddick that i am suitable for this contest.
Have a Nice Day.Thank you.

Well I know I can improve as a batsman in many ways and win this god damn show. I have been playing cricket now for 2 years and in that time i've gone from a guy who can't tell a googly from the boogyman to the best cricketer in my school. I know there's one area I need to work on and that's my back foot play, playing on grass pitches doesn't help for short pitch bowling so no back foot play there.

I feel I can improve as a bowler in my attacking form. I was pitching short for a reason I was trying to perfect the bouncer. Also I have a bit of a knee problem so I am a bit stiff as well. I need to work on my yorkers as I bowl full length and give the batsman easy runs instead of broken toes.
I really need this contract with Hampshire and the money because my family are going through rough times financially and 100k will be fantastic.
All I can do is give it my best.

The Cricketer
I am a very good Batsman, who can stand at the crease for a long time. Many people keep on complaining to me that i bat very Slow. I normally would make my 50 Runs off 100+ Balls. I can Run Many single, since I am a fast runner. But I lack in my strength. I have to build up my arms, so i can build up my Strike rate by hitting 6's. I have a weakness with the Slow spin bowlers, I really need to work hard on that.

As for my bowler, I never really take it seriously, but I can actually spin the ball very big. I can turn it both ways, I can also beat many batsman with the flight of my ball. My biggest problem is i never take bowling seriously. If I start to think about bowling, i could be a handful.

I never had a major cricketing background, like many, i just play for my street team in friendly match, and with this Event, I can show the world my talent. I know i can become a great all rounder, IF i just study more on bowling, and try to get as much run as Fast as possible.
