Lovely match so far. But why arent you putting any screens from the Zimbabwean innings?

because they have been all been autoplayed. ive found if i dont autoplay it the computer takes so long to score runs and that they dont get near the total. hopefully with the release of boss's version 3 this will be fixed. :upray but at the moment in the best interest of gaming im just autoplaying it to make it competive

Pre Match Interview - Day 4

Ian Healy talks to Ricky Ponting prior to the commencement of day 4.

Healy - So Punter, interesting position you are in at the moment. Have you spoken alot about how you are going to approach this days play? Obviously still chasing the win?

Ponting - Definatly Heals, we still have another 2 days of cricket left in this test match. The big issue will be the weather. hopefully the rain wont interupt any more play in this test. As to our thinking and tactics, we want to give ourselves the best chance to come out of this match with a win. To do that we need to bowl Zimbabwe out again.
I would be thinking a lead of roughly 250-300 would be a nice cushion to go into the sheds with. Saying that we will probably look at having 3 to 4 sessions at the Zimbabwe batting lineup to ensure we can bowl them out. It took us less than a day in the first innings but with the rain the way it is, you never really know.

Healy - Does this mean we may be looking at some attacking batting from the boys, to be honest we havent really seen that from this potentially damaging batting lineup

Punter - We always go out to attack for you heals *chuckles*. But in fairness we havent played our most attacking batting of recent games but in melbourne we looked to just consolidate where we were at. This wicket has been difficult, but yes heals, we will most likely look to set it up early in the 1st session then move a little bit quicker, i know pigeon (glenn mcgrath), and diz (jason gillespie) are very keen to have a crack at these boys today.

Healy - Well it sounds like we are in for an entertaining day of cricket here. All the best to you ricky, back to you in the studio.

Match Update - Lunch Day 4

A tough and very competitive session between minnows Zimbabwe and world champions Australia. Australia started the day placed in a dangerous position, having lost openers langer and hayden (both for 4) with the score at 11am on day 4 at 2/16. martyn and ponting took a small period of time to get settled on a pitch that was moving at least a foot in either direction. streak and blignaut bowling very well. compiling a partnership of 31 before martyn was dismissed for 15, a great athletic catch at 2nd slip by Marillier.

This brought young michael clarke to the wicket coming off successive centuries (144 vs pakistan and 100* vs zimbabwe 1st innings) with australia in dire straights at 3/43. unfortunatly the boy sensation could not make the most of his current run of form, dimissed by Hondo for only 11.

Katich and ponting looked to steady this ship, however the number 6 batsman (katich) was bowled courtesy of an inside edge of blignaut 2 balls before lunch, out for 17 with score 5/102. gilchrist survived the final 2 balls of the session to leave the score 5/102 - a lead of 134. the match evenly place, australia 5 wickets left and a lead of 134 on the board. a total lead of 250 looking an ultimate target.

Below:
- A great diving catch by Marillier dismisses Martyn for 15
- Clarke edges an easy catch to Marillier on 11 (his first sub 100 score of the season)
- Katich bowled, inside edge, bowled by Blignaut on 17

Ponting Ton Saves Aussies

A stunning Ricky Ponting century catapulted australia into a comanding position at tea on day 4 in Harare. The brilliant unbeaten 104 came from 168 balls and was ably backed up by vice captain wicketkeeper/batsman Adam Gilchrist 60* (87). With the score precariously placed at 5/102 at lunch, Ponting and Gilchrist took the game away from Zimbabwe in a comanding second session in which australia added a further 129 runs without loosing a wicket. Ponting clocking up his 2nd century of the season, and arguably his most important of the international competition, in fine style with a leg glance racing to the fence.

The sun eventually came out at 2.45 after a day of overcast conditions, it seemingly blessed the batsmen, for the next hour worth of play runs were scored at almost a run a minute. The australians leaving the field with the score on 5/231 - a lead of 263 runs with 4 sessions left to play.

Below:
- Ricky Ponting reaches 50 shortly after lunch
- Gilchrist showing great composure in attack, this time driving for 4
- Gilchrist again - brilliant cut shot off Raymond Price

Mark Taylor spoke to coach John Buchanen at the tea interval

MT - John a great session play there for Australia, you must be alot more satisfied with that performance?

JB - Yes mark alot better than our previous batting attempts.

MT - What did you think was the key reason the boys played the way they did in that last session because from our view the pitch seems to be playing a little bit unevenly?

JB - Well yes i agree on the issue of the pitch. As you would expect with any day 4 wicket it is starting to break up a little. The bounce isnt as constant. However we spoke about putting some partnerships together after our first innings. Our top order couldnt do it, we had 3 that made starts, however ricky and adam took the initiative today and showed how it should be done. The way they play together is something very special.

MT - Very much so John? So are ther any plans on a declaration so far?

JB - Well thats something we will look at soon. We still have 5 wickets left in this innings and 4 sessions to play. We might look to get another 50-80 runs on the board and maybe have another 40 minutes at them today then all day tomorrow.

MT - Well best of luck john, hopefully gilly can get to his ton. Well there you have it Richie, Australia in command now and looking to twist the screws in this last session of play.

Richie - Thank you Mark surely a great session a head of us. Stay tuned.

Below:
- Gilchrist reaches 50
- Ponting cannons Price for 6
- Punter brings up magic 100
