Australia Arrive In India

After a crushing defeat of New Zealand in Melbourne, the Australian squad arrived in Kolkata today ahead of their clash against India. After a whole week of high temperatures and no rain, the wicket at Kolkata appears to be extremely dry and dusty. Talking ahead of the test, John Buchanan appeared to indicate some changes will be made for the match.

Well from having a brief look at this wicket today there is no doubt that it will turn quite a bit. We have brought the whole squad with us and everybody is available. There may be 2 or 3 changes made, i would say that stuart mcgill will come into the team, not totally sure who he will replace yet, and we will have another look at our batting order, there may be some room for changes.
-John Buchanan
(Australian Head Coach)

India are expected to play spinners Kumble and Harbajan Singh aswell as two quick bowlers.

Below - Stuart MacGill is firming as a real chance to play in the upcoming India match

Who were the top scorers?

West Indies 10/383 (D. Smith 86, H. Streak 4/141) and 10/329 (C. Gayle 89) drew with
Zimbabwe 10/669 (M. Vermeulen 113, D. Marillier 104, H. Streak 95) and 0/8
at Harare
M.O.M - H. Streak

all the matches are summarised just a couple of posts up. if you read the australia v zimbabwe match i commented on how zimbabwe played as though they were an allright team. but the west indian bowling lineup is very week.

Selection suprise as Katich and Lee are left out

Andrew Symonds proved to be the surprise selection ahead of the Kolkata test against India today. In a move predicted by none, Symonds was included mainly due to his all round ability and also due to current hot form in the one day international competition. Stuart MacGill made a return to the international scene to replace paceman Brett Lee on a dusty sub-continent wicket.

However it was symonds that proved the major talking point ahead of the crucial match. Australian captain Ricky Ponting indicated that there were many contributing factors to Symonds selection.

After having a look at the wicket out there its definatly going to turn a bit. We will take Shane and Stuie into the match but the selectors felt that it would be important to take somebody into the team that was a capable finger spin bowler to give us some variation from the two wrist-spinners.
But Andrew has been playing some great cricket of late. He has been close to man of the match in all of our games.

While its very unfortunate for Simon Katich, who hasnt been performing overly poorly, we just felt that at the current point in time at this venue we just felt that Andrew covered more areas.
