This has happened even in international cricket. This is not the first time that its happening. By this criteria, Australia should not have won the World Cup in 1999.

It's happened two times in a row now. Mumbai was by far the best team of the tournament. And when it mattered the most, they lost. Same thing happened with Delhi last year. They didn't even manage to reach the finals despite being fantastic throughout the group matches.

Makes me wonder, if we'll ever find an alternative to the knockout stages of a big tournament. We should have 'best of three' finals in every major tournament IMO.

Wow, people are already complaining of an overload of games. You want two more added to it. Both MI and CSK should have known that one bad game would knock them out of the tournament. They know the format. They got to be ready for it. I would have said the same if CSK lost it.

long term, if they increas the franchises, i think splitting it into two 6 team divisions would work, the top two going into the semi-finals. kinda like the america has east and west conferences.

india can easily support 12 teams, it would also keep the tournament at a reasonable length despite the expansion.

the one thing I hate is that all the players are currently going to be up for grabs, tendulkars thing about each team retaining 8 players (8 the bare minimum, more would also be fine) is an absolute must. I would imagine, was there to be a real loyalty to franchises, warne, watson and pathan should be very popular in rajasthan, it would be unfair for them to lose them all.

If the total number of games can increase to 96 in the next season, why can't they add two more to that? It'll definitely allow the better of the two finalists to win the tournament. Mumbai was the best team of the tournament and that too with a great margin. I just feel sad they were not crowned as the winners despite playing much better cricket than all other teams.

How on earth did the management of MI including the captain could have allowed this, Pollard to bat at 8, with 18 balls to get 55 runs, what a joke!!! Yeah in my books this match was sold!!!

The measure of a great limited overs team is not how they perform in the group stages, but how they perform in the final, whether it's ODI or T20 cricket.

Lots of my friends from school came up to me and told me that they watched the IPL on YT and found it very interesting. If it can reach people in small town America - and i'm talking folks from no cricketing background at all (Hispanics, white-americans) then imagine the impact it had in the cities!

Thats brilliant. The ICC and some of the country boards should take a cue from this and try to connect with broadcasters who can tie up with sites like YouTube, Daily Motion, etc and promote the game to unknown territories.

T20 cricket is ideal for such promotions.

I got most of my co-workers to watch it as well, nothing excites them more than the concept of bouncers. They find it amazing that if you hit the batsman he has to stand there and take some more! (no walks in the real mans sport!)

Anytime I show someone a video of cricket for the 1st time, I immediately show bouncers from Shoaib :laugh

Exactly my thoughts but no one here seems to agree to this point of view here. How could they have send in duminy when they needed 65 off 30 balls? How can a player with sachin's experience mess up with batting order like this, is beyond me.

Agreed. But, don't you feel if we have 'best of three' finals it will be much fair for the better team. In T20 any team can defeat the other team on its day. I feel for Mumbai as they were the better team, rather the best team of the tournament. One loss and it's all ruined for them.
