The My Sport is better than yours thread

LOL!!!!

In a way AFL is a combination of Rugby & Soccer.

Ok, so you have made it clear you dont watch NRL. So dont bother making any comments on the sport because you dont know what you are talking about. Your to arrogant to argue with, because you only know about the 1 sport.

Manchester United is the best because a rich guy owns it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
stupidest comment ever.

As for more points being scored, well I wonder what feels better, a slight cheer when you're team gets their 100th point or going absolutely crazy when you score.

As a neutral football might not be the best sport for any of you but to watch as a fan it's streets ahead of everything.

The complexity of Football is massive to that of any other sport heres why.
Tactics- Tactics play a big part in the world of football and to how your team is going to shape up and has to match the tempo you want to play.

Tempo- Tempo is a big part as passing it around very quick because your a counter attacking team or slow passing and look at the build up.

Possession- Possesion a big part also as most teams who play good attacking football win such as Barcalona, Real Madrid, AC Milan.

Defence- Defence plays a big part because you know if you have a good defence and dont let much goals in your always in with a chance.

Coaching- Messi commented on Barcalona about the philophosy and showed how to play football and not how to win.
Midfield- When you have a good midfield it might make up for you crap forwards as when you can keep giving it to the forward for a good 1v1.

Attack- If there was anything more important in Football its scoring goals as if you cant score goals you cant win.
Atmosphere- The atmosphere of Football is just amazing as instead of playing good possession football in which you should do in the last 15 minutes when your up 1-0 you play defence and bomb it up to the forward line instead of playing that you shoud ALWAYS play possesion as if you got the ball they cant score!

Thats my reasons on why Football is better than any other sport in the world.

OK, so if you weren't rich, where would you be? If you hadn't bought the best players from around the world, where would you be? Do you think that Cristiano Ronaldo went to play for you because he loved your team spirit? Or because the people there are really nice and they try hard and he likes the culture there? Or do you think it may have had something to do with the millions of pounds he makes? And if your argument is that Chelsea is richest but not the best, then I'll be doing more than laughing at you and your short sightedness.

And I can tell you that it's not a slight cheer when someone scores their 100th point, but yes I'd rather cheer 20 times than once or twice in a game. I'd also hate to go home without scoring a single goal.

So you say that the atmosphere is better (which I still disagree with, and I take the fact that fans feel the need to throw flares at each other or onto the pitch to kill time as an example)

I've got to say that you clearly feel that you're the smartest guy here and that your opinion is fact, so good on you. As I said before, best sport is a personal opinion thing, feel free to argue why soccer is better but all you seem to want to do is laugh at people for what they say because you disagree.

Yes but tactics play a role in every sport. Coaching, defence, attack, tempo, they're all employed in most team sports, certainly in AFL they are.

AFL's a good sport no doubt but it lacks that sort of thing as the only time you can really celebrate is the end and in Football you celebrate each time you get a goal with footy it sort of gets a bit repetive.

There hasn't been a flare in England for about 10 years so thats yet another brilliant point from you.

The idea that you think Malcolm Glazer has bought our success is one of the stupidest I have ever heard but I guess it shows how ignorant you are.

Of course Ronaldo came for the money and because he has a better chance of winning here, but so? Footballs like that, some teams are better than others so they have more money and can buy better players. Ifthats the reason you don't like the sport it's a poor one. United have earnt our success, we started out just like any other club but Sir Alex and his brilliant management allowed us to dominate English football and in the process we have got the rewards.

As for not scoring, sure it happens, and it doesn't feel good, but sport isn't about going home happy every week. It's about supporting oyu're team when things aren't good as well which is why it's so much better when one of our teams score a goal.

Now I know you might not like the fact I laughed at you but I would have to when it was possibly the stupidest comment ever made on the internet.

Oh yes, United are very rich, aren't we, doing very well indeed, our bank balance is sky high...

Then reality sinks in, we are ?666 million in debt, and that is rising due to interest payments. Glazer isn't putting his own money into the football club, he's borrowing it from banks, which spells trouble due to the credit crunch. We can't afford the repayments. Season ticket prices have reached an all-time high, trying to pay for these repayments, and still its not managed. The signings from the last few summers haven't been paid off yet. Glazer could walk out whenever he wanted to, leaving United in crisis, and him scot-free.

United aren't actually the example of your point, replace us with Chelsea. We actually built up our success with the youth cup winning team of 92, we were having success a lot longer than before Glazer came, and our success is despite him, and not because.

Like Joe said, supporting a team really isn't too much about when things are going well, when the JCL's come along, it's about supporting your team when things aren't going the right way. Those times make the good times all the more sweet.

How much would an average ticket cost in the EPL?

Has anyone seen the Simpsons episode where they take the piss out of soccer, classic!

It varies massively, at somehwere like Wigan you won't be paying more than £300 which is about £15 a game which is cheap then at Arsenal you can be paying more than a grand for a season ticket.

First point, I'm not talking about England specifically when I say flares, it's about the sport.

I wasn't referring to Malcolm Glazer or any owner specifically, I'm talking about the money that you have to pay players with. If you were poor, you wouldn't be able to afford to grab the world's best talent. Don't talk to me about rebuilding, you have no idea what rebuilding is unless you were at the bottom of the ladder.

We can only afford to pay high wages, because we built up. We built a team in the early 90's, that was about half the team, without paying transfer fees. With a good team, you'll entice a better standard of players to the club.

You actually said "United are the best because of a rich owner", obviously referring to Glazer. We had success a lot longer before Glazer came along.

I wasn't referring to Glazer though, because I don't know who he is! If it's nothing to do with owners (and I'm sure it has something to do with it) then congratulations, but you're still monopolising the league.
