A good, fundamentally sound left-arm opening bowler - would have played plenty of international cricket for a country less full of fast bowlers. I'll certainly take him
Apparently he's the coach of Saudi Arabia now.

Buttler will end up as the better ODI player
If Buttler were to retire at the exact same age as Adam Gilchrist did, he'd have four more years of cricket left in him from this day.

In those four years, he has to score 2,663 Test runs (he currently has 2,907) and 4,972 ODI runs (he currently has 4,647) to catch up to Gilchrist.

Adam Gilchrist's international career spanned 12 years. Jos Buttler will complete that in August later this year.

The disrespect on Gilchrist is simply outrageous.

I mentioned ODIs only. Buttler's ODI average and strike rate are superior.

Okay so let's maths this quickly.

So the statement was simply ODI players. They both play different roles; Gilchrist is an opener, and Buttler bats between 4 and 6 most of the time. We'll do VARPs within these parameters.

:aus: :wkb: Adam Gilchrist - 9,200 runs @ 36.50 (SR: 98.02, 16 centuries, best 172) in 259 innings as opener
VARP: +51.87%

:eng: :wkb: Jos Buttler - 3,691 runs @ 41.47 (SR: 117.92, 10 centuries, best 162*) in 108 innings between 4 and 6
VARP: +45.04%

So it's very close, but Gilchrist was marginally further ahead of his peers. He was also a better wicket-keeper and on-field captain.
