The International Cricket Council (ICC) has agreed in principle to use the umpire Decision Review System (DRS) at the 2011 World Cup.

The ICC must first strike a deal with broadcasters ESPN Star Sports to work out whether sufficient technology is available to use at a global event.

The DRS has been plagued by various financial and execution problems.

Good I hope it gets used. Everyone craps on about the Daryl Harper mistake, but generally I think the system has done the job. It would be even better if there was a technical expert who knew a LOT about Hotspot, hawkeye in the 3rd umpires box to help him if he needed some quick advice.

But in ODI's, it'll really slow it down. May be annoying.

Take it out ICC!
ODI cricket is getting better after serious down fall due to ICC World T20 and IPL.

If ICC wants to try it, let them try it in the already spoiled T20's:yes.

I totally agree with review system. Billy Doctrove will have a lot more trouble screwing us in 2011.

Great, I welcome the system.
It'd slow down the pace but will surely improve the match decisions and quality.

That's a great move by the ICC, it's gonna somehow play an important role in making sure that the better team wins the game in the end by reducing the amount of bad decisions made by the umpires.

+1

If there is technology at our disposal to reduce human error and ensure a fair game, especially in an all important tournament like the World Cup, it should definitely be used. Might slow down the pace of the match a bit, but I'm sure not many cricket fans will be too miffed with having to make a few compromises for the greater good.

Guys, can you answer me a thing?
When cricket is a gentlemen's game, I don't think gentlemen should ask for chances once the head of that particular thing declares that he's out/unfit:yes.

Binnu added 2 Minutes and 17 Seconds later...

And you guys know why ICC is not implementing it in T20 cricket?
I know it. (Dunno if its the exact reason, but this is one of the main reasons)

In Olympics, there is some rule which states that the player has to follow the umpire/referee without any argument. To keep Olympic option alive, they're not implementing it:yes.

Gentlemens game maybe 100 years ago or more. There are few gentlemen in the game today and maybe would/will not walk if they nick the ball or glove it so the UDRS is a must.

Nice decision by ICC there. It should be implemented in T20s too.

Yes implementing it is fine step from ICC
as they are making game more accurate and I agree that they should do it for t20 first as 1 mistake from umpire makes huge difference there...!!:)

Good move by ICC, it will be very useful especially in big tournaments like World Cup.
