Windows 7 - Will it be the best of Microsoft?

What if I want Windows 7 on my entire computer, not just a partition?

What if my computer crashes, and need to reinstall the OS? I won't have a disc?

Retain the disc that originally came with your PC (ie. with whatever OS that came with your PC). When your computer crashes, restore the original OS and then go through the process of installing Windows 7 on a new partition, and then delete the original OS partition (i.e. Vista or XP depending on what came with your PC). Remember, deleting the original partition sometimes is tough because it is designated as the system partition. You got to do some research on how to change the system partition before formatting it and removing the OS from the boot loader.

Its a little cumbersome process. However, its a better option to have a dual boot of your original OS along with Windows 7. That way if Win 7 crashes, you can go back to the original OS or re-install Windows 7 from the original OS. You will lose a few GB's of space if you had Vista as your original OS but with big HD spaces these days, its not a big deal.

Edit: Windows 7 Media Center is terrific! The ease of use is so good, and the art flow when you browse your music is just stunning. Planning to use my current PC as a DVR (with Win 7 Media Center) once I get my new PC. The 'Internet TV' and the integration of Netflix Instant watching has been superbly done.

Decided to ditch the waiting altogether and got two copies of Windows 7 Professional. Gosh, it is awesome!

On my sister's PC, I went for a complete fresh install, and well its immaculate and we all know that.

The real deal is my PC. I upgraded from Vista SP2. Not only was the upgrade pretty quick, relatively (Only 1 hour), but it is every bit as slick as a new install!

I don't know what you guys are talking about but I have a slight problem which is annoying me.

Okay you have the "My Music" folder for example. Now say I have folders creating in the My Music folder like indie music folder, heavy metal, random songs, kings of leon ect.

The thing is I can't move folders around within the folder in Windows 7...so say I want my folder to look like this order "Kings of Leon, Indie, Random, ABR" I can't do this because the folders just don't move about, I have tried the right click drag and that didn't work either, any help?

Thanks.

Those who use McAfee deserve to be ripped off.

Time to install free anti virus solution now. Any one uses Zone Alarm free version. It used to kill my system speed in past when I used it.

I m thinking of getting Windows 7 should I get it this is my system:

Intel P4 2.66 Ghz
2GB RAM
Geforce 8400GS special edition

Anyone know?

Folders are always arranged alphabetically in folders or sub folders.

You can play around on desktop though.

Yeah I don't want that I want to arrange my folders myself. I hate the fact that "My Recieved Files" is just bang in the middle of the folders I have created...surely you can move them around after all you could with XP...

inb4 "use XP"

Yeah, apparently they got rid of it with Vista. There're a lot of people complaining.

You can experiment with a few of the Vista fixes at your own risk.

Wow, 7 is growing up on me. I have Aero on, 5 sidebar gadgets, Firefox with 4 tabs open [One being Facebook and another being a flash game], and Windows 7 still is overall only taking around 25% of my RAM, which is around 512MB. Wow, just wow, I bet Vista would take around 40% for this situation easily, even with SP2. Even XP would not take such low space with so much stuff open. MS really has got things right with 7.

Even on so low RAM usage I'm having zero HDD activity on flipping between Windows, and things are a snap. SuperFetch does show its prowess now.
