20GB? I installed Win7 on one of my friends drives, in just around 6-7 GB. That was professional version.

Mine is Win 7 ultimate version. He told me that it requires 16 GB space. 5-6 GB for the OS and remaining for the snapshot thing or something. I was not in patience to listen to him as I wanted to see the product :p

Yes, I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate version. It took just 20 minutes I believe. I went for custom installation and having two OS - XP and W7 at present. The major migration to W7 has been done but still, I need to install some more software.

Good things I felt about W7 :

1) Resource utilization mechanism between various process. It is fast.
2) Driver updates are more user friendly now.
3) Windows media center. It just rocks & I did find it effective compared to normal WMP 12.
4) I personally liked that 'No Grouping ' in task bar.
5) Auto updates from Microsoft. :banana2 I liked this in XP too.

Things which annoyed me

1) Too much of security. :facepalm Same as Vista I believe.
2) Run as Admin option is necessary for most of the things. I did not like this, because once you have logged in as admin, why there should be a separate option is expected to run as admin?

I am yet to run the Java/C editors & servers in this. If it is not compatible like in XP, I will try that official Virtual XP environment patch for W7. If it is giving problem still, probably I need to stick back to XP. :sarcasm

Isnt the security good? It makes your PC more secure for a few minutes of accepting the prompts. Its noticeably better than Vista regarding the less number of prompts that you need to accept. Its not as annoying as Vista and they have made a major improvement on that.

I agree that the option need not be there since you are already logged in as "admin". But not a major hindrance.

Both are good things.

As for option 2, it is much better than Vista, and you know this kind of thing stops most malware because most malware is installed by user stupidity who open each and every thing. Next time something is being installed without we knowing, 7 would stop it and prompt.

It has done with most of the UAC prompts btw, all MS stuff like control panel options automatically elevate to the required level when accessed.

And if you don't care about security, just turn UAC off and all your problems are gone.

Each and every page of planet cricket shows me as a threat. :( " blogcasino/lib/index.php " has been recognized as major threat. This is happening only in Windows 7.

What is it?

What AV are you running? Got a firewall instead of Windows Defender running?

I've just upgraded to W7 (it is excellent btw), and I've had no problems. One of the easiest installs I've ever done. I have three issues so far:

1) Didn't automatically find my scanner driver on-line (I have it on disc, but with all other drivers it did it automatically)
2) I'm getting some bad feedback through my speakers when using Youtube, etc.
3) This isn't really a W7 issue, I bought MS Office 07 through a download link, and it expired about 2 days after my XP corrupted. No idea how I'm going to get around this as yet, I have the MS Office folder backed up, but upon selecting an application just get an error that "the operating system hasn't been configured properly for this application".

I love the layout of W7, it really is very good.

it is AVG 9. Yes, it has been recognized as AVG threat. What annoyed me was, I wasn't able to browse even a single page of PC. As soon as the threat was recognized, the page stopped loading. :(

Surely you tried Windows Update for the drivers Nigel?

Of course. It couldn't find them. Just installing everything now, it has some other useful software on the CD anyway.

I manually found them. Problem with scanner sorted.

So I got the Windows 7 educational discount. Got the ISO, burned it to a disk and ran it.

I did it for my uncle before I did it for me and it worked well. I had to uninstall a bunch of stuff, restart and remove drivers, that was annoying, but overall pretty painless.

After the 'housekeeping' duties I ran the installation over night, woke up and it worked fine. I like the dock, love the new window features (especially the shake!) Seems to be a fair bit faster too. Best of all, 7 isn't a paranoid son of a gun like Vista!

Pretty good. A steal for all students at just $30.

I cannot access PC at all. Any help? This happens only when I login. When I open PC as guest, it doesn't show any threats. But as soon as I login, it comes up & PC page just stops from loading. :(
