Xbox 360

Why do people get the ring of death on their xbox anway?

I was told it means the system has a hardware error due to it overheating. This problem could be avoided with a built-in fan, but there is only one in the Xbox 360 Elite and not the first edition.

Yeah for the sad people that spend hours all day long on their xbox.

Anyway,on my xbox yesterday i had fully up batteries in the battery pack and the controller kept on turning off, is it because i need to purchase a new battery pack or are the batteries knackerd and pants ones. please help give me a resalution!!!

It is not necessarily caused by the system being turned on for too long, it can be due to direct sunlight.

If your controller turns itself off during play, it usually means the batteries in it need replacing.

I would recommend buying rechargable batteries to save the time and money of going out and buying new ones each time they need replacing.

Just a shame an Xbox 360 is better ey Lee ;) Therefore its "superior," as you so elegantly put it.

I hardly ever go on mine, and i still got ring of death. The time spent of the machine is nothing to do with it.

Ring of Death can be caused by many things.

For example my friends was in the upward position on the floor and one of his nephews knocked it over while we were playing. About 5 minutes later the game crashed and when we turned it back on we got the 'Ring of Death' because when it was knocked over the CD must have come loose and was scratched all over.

So its not just faults of over-heating etc, although they are the typical one's.

Basically, the error is dependant upon how many patterns are lit red.

So if 1 is lit red you have a general hardware error, if 2 are lit red it means the console is overheating, if 3 are lit up then the console is experiencing a hardware failure caused by multiple systems failing simultaniously, so an internal error, and, if 4 are lit up then there's something wrong with your AV cable.

So make sure you check how many are lit up before complaining to Microsoft because it could be fixed manually unless 3 are lit up!

One question can I play Multiplayer games using Xbox LIVE Silver Membership ?

No sorry you can't you have to have gold membership.

Also, my friend got the ring of death and he's had his 360 longer than me for overheating it's weird what a great console can do¬!

It's not "JUST" overheating that is the problem, the 3 red lights signifies a hardware error, not just overheating. The 360 has a fan Lee, thats the stupidly loud noise that you hear when trying to watch a DVD. The 360 is a poorly built machine, but becuase of the immense game catalogue and the fact that it was released a year and abit before the PS3 means that it has an advantage in the market. The only thing that the 360 offers that the PS3 doesnt is the depth of online play. The 360 has the best online system out there, Live is fantastic to use, the PSN system just doesnt stand up. The fact that the 360 is loud, poorly made, doesnt have a built in HD player, means that the PS3 is my system of choice. Microsoft really need to sort the 360 hardware problem out, and not just take the easy route of increasing the warranty.
