Right, I've been feeling like I don't rant enough these days! So I'm going to bump this and probably vent my frustration for a few days here.
Tonight's rant:
You know what really grinds my gears?
Online Games.
Yes that's right, they get right on my tits and here's why. We all think they are a good idea in practice. We play games against hopeless AI and look for a more realistic challenge. We think it'll be great to play our friends without the hassle of actually going outside to one of their houses and actually having to bother meeting them.
Enter Online Games. Trouble is, I'm a 30 something year old man who has other things to do in his life other than play online games (Work, Pay bills, Mow Lawn, Visit Pub, etc etc). Result, I'm not very good and certainly not as good as an unemployed person who spends all day long in a darkened room playing said game over and over and over and over. So I play said unemployed person and get thrashed, over and over and over.
It's either that or I end up playing some guy half way around the world who is truly terrible and will probably disconnect on me half way through the game because his internet is powered by a 90's dialup modem.
Heaven forbid the doorbell should sound or the phone ring. Imagine the horror that I'd actually want a cup of tea! Or just get bored and want to save the game and come back to it AT A TIME THAT SUITS ME.
Flip this around and imaging I am actually quite good at the game (hard I know) and I just end up playing people who are crap, time after time after time. Where is the fun in that?
Is anyone actually getting a decent matchup without having to sit up until 3am to play in some sort of league run for some bizzare reason on Israeli time?
At least with the rubbish AI, I can usually tailor the difficulty to make it the least bit bearable.
And that Ladies and Gentlemen is what is grinding my gears tonight.
