You know what really grinds my gears? Shoe shops.

I'm a big bloke, I have reasonably large feet compared to mere mortals but not massive. I'm a UK size 12.

So why is it when I ask "Do you have these in a 12?" the assistant goes out back for about 10mins then comes back and says "I have one pair of 11's"? What bloody good is that to me? Why do I care about the stock situation of shoes that will not fit me? When you book a flight to New York, if the flight is full they don't offer you a seat on a plane to Hong Kong do they!

After we establish that they in fact only have 11's the next piece of golden info the assistant usually furnishes me with is "We only stock up to 12". No you sodding don't! You say you stock up to 12, but it's quite clear that you only stock up to 11.

And that is what is grinding my gears tonight.

I can remember in turkey I needed to get a pair of trabs, as I only brought one pair on holiday and after 3 days of partying they had changed colour.

In their defence, I've found there to be no relation between the number of the size, and the size of the shoe. I have shoes from 8 to 10 that all fit fine, so occasionally it might be worth trying the 11 (of course it is much more fun to complain )

I find Brantano always have 13/14s around. Even seen some 15s! If not, Brighton will have something somewhere, and you know, plenty of places to have a pint. *cough* hint *cough*
