I'm not sure if Zaheer is better than Johnson in tests going by recent results. Zaheer has been good but Johnson has been dominant. I would say Johnson then Zaheer in tests. In ODIs it's easily Bracken.
Zaheer has a very good record when it comes to the variety of conditions that he has been consistent in. He rarely dominates, but is rarely dominated. I think Johnson really needs to prove himself in England in order to stamp his authority.
Johnson is continuing to improve with every series now it is just a question of him being more consistent and producing in all conditions. He did have trouble striking early in the 3rd test and has struggled in the 2nd inns so that is things he needs to work on.
I always rated Wasim Akram as the best left arm bowler I have seen and C.Vaas as the second LF bowler. Vaas is one of the cunning foxes in the game-play. But recently, may be because he is too aged, he has not produced that much aggression in bowling as he was before.
It's a close between Zaheer and Johnson in this scenario. But I have watched Zaheer too right from his debut. Zaheer was at his best during Steve Waugh period, then got rusted completely and again, he improved and he is now a front-line strike bowler along with Ishant. But still, something is preventing me to accept Zaheer as the quality bowler like how he was during Waugh's period.
Hence I would go for Johnson who has been dominating for a long period of time
Johnson bowls well only when there is some assistance for the bowlers. Johnson was unable to do anything in India(flat tracks) in the last test series against India. Zak thinks better than Johnson.
