It's just not cricket

No were on about how the IPL is forcing tours to shorten because of it's time (ie. The upcoming NZ Vs. Australia series). Thats what were on about.

So what do you suggest? For the IPL to shut down? Do you seriously think thats going to happen? Even if the ICC demands the IPL to share the money with other cricketing boards, its not going to solve the problem of the 'shortening of cricketing tours' which you guys are so concerned about.

The solution for players giving more importance to IPL contracts would be

1. Pay your players more and make them feel as if playing for international cricket means almost the same financially

2. Have clauses in their contracts that makes them give priority to international cricket

3. Reward them for chosing international cricket over domestic league tournaments

etc. Instead of blaming the IPL, do this and you might not fear about players leaving international cricket abruptly.

Have you read anything we've said, most boards don't have the money to compete with the IPL. How are we suppose to pay them more. And how would they be rewarded for choosing international cricket over the IPL, I can't think of anything?

We are not going to do that. If your board cant withstand the IPL and cant keep the players attracted to the country's national teams, maybe you guys dont deserve to be playing international cricket.

Hahaha, great attitude that :sarcasm

It makes it pretty easy not to respect the good things some people say when you get rubbish like that.

Are you serious, no country can pay it's players as much as the IPL can. But you're right, let's cut international cricket down too just Aus, Ind, Eng and maybe SA. One of the worst comment's I've read in this thread tbh.

Then wait until your boards become financially strong to pay those amounts of money. Its a tricky situation that these boards have got into, but you cant just stop the IPL for existing just because they pay good money for your players. Have clauses in the player contracts where if the player chooses any other cricket over international cricket, he cant play international cricket for life (or for a certain period). Blaming the IPL for coming up with a money making scheme which incorporates cricket and business (and confining within all legal guidelines possible) is just not ON!

Nearly every major national cricket board had plans to create leagues similar to the IPL. Does that tell us that they are concerned about how such leagues would detract from their international fixtures?

If that was such a pressing concern for those nations, they should have done something about it. Instead, they came out with proposals for their own leagues, England with its P20 league and South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand with the Southern Premier League. Can you imagine how cluttered the international calendar would be if there were three such leagues?

New Zealand pulled out of the SPL because it didn't have anytime to play in it. So I think it show's NZ still rates international cricket above everything else.

Howsie added 5 Minutes and 16 Seconds later...

I don't want the IPL gone, I've just given my reasons why I'm not a big fan of it. Like I've said, make a three week window for it. But having a clause in a players contract wouldn't do much beacuse they only last for a year. Once it finishes they can go and do what ever they want, and if the IPL expanded I think we could quite easily see players from NZ and the WI leave. The IPL and ICC have too make sure this doesn't happen. Hopefully the NOC agreement works.

imo International games should be minimised and all cricket should be franchised like EPL and NBA. This way when countries play internationals its more of a prestige and honour to play for your country rather playing every second day which has no value to it.

Imo Test Cricket should be the pinnacle, 50 Overs should be the testing ground with new rules ect and Twenty 20 SHOULD be "hit and giggle" the Australia v New Zealand where they had the (iirc) the 70's theme and the fake underarm incident is how it should stay there should be mascots aplenty and the indians need to get off there success in the first World Cup(which really shouldnt have taken place) and come back down to earth.

Yeah, I agree. When they had players miked up, one or two maximum Twenty20's in a teams home international season is good. Anymore, and it's overkill. Twenty20 doesn't deserve competitions. Twenty20 doesn't deserve a World Cup.

The IPL is 20/20. 20/20 is crap. Simple as that.

Yep, the easiest and simplest way to say it.

I hate T20, but its nice to have the 2 international T20 games for the players to have fun on the field. But yeah, the stupid IPL and T20 World Cup shouldn`t exist. Its just stupid.

The realists/purists are going to have to put up with these little s**** who think T20 should be the best thing since sliced bread. But It will die out, it's not the future. It will always be around but look whats happened in England. People are starting to get bored so we had to scrap our 2nd T20 competition. If we had had it, it would have been to much anyway!

I've never hated T20 and I still don't hate T20, I will watch it, but I am big believer that Test Cricket is the pinnacle form of the game. You will be rated higher if you can dominate test cricket. But T20 is just getting too 1 Dimensional for me, team gets out for a low score chased down easily. Team gets big score team chases down big score or gets bowled out easily. It doesn't have the thrills of a Test or 50 over game. The Yuvraj, McCullum and Napier innings only come once in every so often.

Just watch the fifth test in the ashes, that'll be what I call cricket.

Yea because playing for the American basketball team is an honor these days. 80-90 percent of kids these day's dream would be to play in the NBA, not for the American team.

I don't see whats so funny about those terms? for the real cricket fans who watch the pure form of the game.
