  1. Don Bradman Cricket 14 - Steam PC
I have decided to purchase a PS3 this May, and so I am selling my PS2 to a friend of mine. Before selling, I wish to know the common things in PS2 and PS3.

  1. Can I use the same controllers which I used in PS2 in PS3 too?
  2. Can I use the same memory card (after deleting all the data)?
  3. Can I use the same games?

Any help on the three issues would be appreciated.

Thanks.

With my PS3 at least (40gb original, not slim version), you cannot play PS2 games - there may or may not be a version that is backwards compatible.

You will be able to use a PS2 controller with PS3 if you get the right adapter - anything that allows the PS2 pad to work with PC should do the job. :)

I don't think you can use PS2 memory cards with PS3.

Hope that helps. :)

only the old fat 80 GB Ps3 has backwards compatibility. If you can find it get it, I wish mine could play ps2 games.

Sony discontinued the 'fat' 80gb version of the PS3 a few years back, there were many problems with it and i guess Sony realised they were losing money so they stopped it.

I think that you might be able to get an emulator for the PS3, but only if you've jailbroken it, which i strongly advise you not to do.

I've had the fat 40gb one for almost 4 years and never once had a problem. The controller is still going too

Oh, so I guess that neither can I use my PS2 controllers (as I don't have the USB extension) nor can I use the same memory card. Correct me if I am wrong.

What is jailbroken? And will the emulator allow me to run the games on my computer or will it allow me to run the PS2 games on PS3? I don't want to run the games on a computer, so if its for that purpose then I don't want it.

What is the actual difference in the 'fat' and the 'slim' version? I had bought the PS2 slim version as many said that the 'slim' versions are superior to the 'fat' versions but never knew what's the actual difference in the too. Is it just related to the size of the console?

I don't think there is any real difference. Maybe a few more USB ports, but functionality wise, it's the exact same.

PS3 hasn't been fully jailbroken at all. Only just starting really. Nothing's going to come out of that for a few months at the very least

PS3 slim makes less noise and uses less power than a fat and why would you need a memory card for a ps3? My ps3 is 320gb slim btw.

I knew that memory card wouldn't really work, but just to confirm it I asked my doubt. TBH, I have absolutely no idea about the extensions, the plugs, etc. of the PS3. I have just decided that I WILL be purchasing PS3 this May.

The important stuff like selecting the best version with the appropriate hard disk space, the pricing and other related things can be done later as I am expecting a reasonably nice fall in the prices by that time.

do you have an HD Tv? cause it's kind of pointless without one

you're all set then. Great thing about Ps3 is that once you buy it, there are no more expenses. No paying for online, no buying a hard drive, or batteries for controllers, or paying to change username etc.

No paying for online
I didn't get this correctly. Does it mean that we don't need to pay anything extra to play online but the data transfer has to come through our personal wi-fi connection or is it that the PS3 has the feature to connect to the server directly, without any external source?

lol what?

I just mean they don't charge for online gameplay, like XBOX live, you still need your own ISP.
