India tour of Sri Lanka - July/Sept 2017

Those guys smashed Indian bowlers in the Champions Trophy. Sri Lanka still has a unpredictable batting lineup, they can either crumble or play with such finesse. With Gunaratne injured, it seems likely an innings defeat anyway.

Different ball game. Sri Lanka doesn't have the class, temperament or experience with this lineup to post a competitive challenge to the Indian total. I hope they make a game of it, but India has the bowlers to weed out the Sri Lankan batting, IMHO.

I am not discounting the Sri lankan batting they might appear inexperience and weak when compare to the Indian batting but the deck seems flat to me and Ashwin does look toothless in such decks. The likes of Tharanga , Gunathalika, Mathews and Kusal Mendis (His innings of 171 against Australia last year in still fresh in my mind also the best Sl batsmen for me in the current roster ) do have the quality in their ranks to counter the Indian bowlers.

If India bat long and hard (possibly till tea or maybe a little beyond that) on Day 2, a total of 600+ definitely looks a possibility. Also that will also mean the wicket might get to a point where it has more wear and tear and as a consequence, be more receptive to our spinners. Add that to the massive scoreboard pressure of 600+ and you could be looking at a scenario where our bowlers are able to pick up wickets.

India have more than enough batting to post even 700 here. We have Saha and Ashwin who are solid blockers and can stay in the crease for really long. Then we have a quick scorer in Pandya and possibly Jadeja (a triple centurion in domestic cricket against toothless attacks on flat decks). We got to keep going on here.

A well deserved Five Wicket haul for Nuwan Pradeep just didn't had the support at the other end to pressurize the Indian batters.

I don't remember a test inning of Shami in which he hasn't hit a six.

Fantastic day for India. 5 more wickets and they can just ask Sri Lanka to continue with their second innings.

Team doctor and physio have said that he might play the T20I series.
I think he is ruled out of the T20's as well.
Well, a really good day for India. Good to see Pandya getting runs on his Test debut. If India get Mathews out quickly the next morning, I think India are set for an innings victory.[DOUBLEPOST=1501168671][/DOUBLEPOST]

He kept persisting with bowling outside off stump and bringing in that bouncer every now and then, Herath was really disappointing. Expected better from him.

A****le

I posted this after the Oz series, I'll say it again-

First innings of a test, decent batting wicket- Look at Ashwin's figures!
He's better at talking than bowling on pitches that don't turn from ball one. You just need to look at the Man United controversy to see that.

Still going on, and Rahane is out there instead of Pandya! Oh god! :facepalm
