He did get going, but only for a short while. After carting Gurinder Sandhu for two sixes in an over, he was caught out at deep square-leg while attempting to bring up the third. Needing another 81 to win off only 42 balls, the Rams' chase had just gotten a great deal tougher.

Why could Virat & Kamran play slowly on a sub continent like wicket & why could our second spinner who is key on SCG Saeed Anwar jnr get's injured... Besides all that going unbeaten in the tournament into the finals & losing by a single run with Virat, Misbah, AB & Watto in the team hurts a lot.

Whoa what a close match.
Hogan, Matthews and Lyon kept us in the hunt.
Just to give little history, Hobart Tigers team was formed with the left over players and it's really pleasing to see a low profile team winning the champions league.

@VC the slogger
Thanks for another exciting league.

So Any News on CLXVI @VC the slogger ?

I amn't quite done yet with this season until I put up a post-season archive and perhaps some stats too if I find the motivation. I'll get started on that in a day or two. But to answer your question, I don't think I'll be running the next season or any more CLs in the near future. Someone else will have to take it over from here.

Champions League XV
Archive

The PlanetCricket Champions League, known simply as the Champions League, is a List-A competition played between the top domestic franchises from the major cricketing nations. It is the most prestigious cricketing league on the forums, jointly started by Prithvi (formerly Binnu) & Mihir Doshi in 2009. This league has been managed by various league holders till date.

For it's 15th season, the team count in the CL has halved from a record 16 in CL XIV to feature only 8 teams this time. The tournament will be played solely in the city of Sydney, which boasts of seven stadiums capable of hosting professional cricket matches. VC the slogger, who recently emerged as the winning manager in CL XIV will take up the league management duties, after previously having done so for CL XIII.

Unlike previous editions of the Champions League, this season will be confined to one city rather than one or more countries. Sydney, where Australia's domestic List-A competition has been held since the 2013/14 season will play host to the event, with as many as seven different venues.

Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Syndey
SLOQ.jpg

The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is the most iconic cricketing venue in Sydney, and of the most prolific cricket grounds in the world. This ground, with an overall capacity of 48,000, has hosted as many as 103 Test matches since 1882 - the most after Lord's and the MCG; and 151 ODIs - second to only Sharjah in the Arabian desert. It is the home ground of the New South Wales cricket team in Australian state cricket, the Sydney Sixers in the BBL and Sydney Swans in the AFL.

The final of Champions League XV will be hosted here, along with two other matches in the "Super Fours" stage of the competition. No group stage matches have been scheduled to take place at this venue.

The SCG pitch generally provides even contests between bat and ball. It is perhaps the best venue for spin bowlers in a country where most pitches favor pace bowling.

Stadium Australia, Sydney Olympic Park
SlhBK.jpg

Stadium Australia, also known as the ANZ Stadium for commercial purposes, was unveiled in March 1999 in time for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. This Olympic stadium with a capacity of over 80,000 (formerly 110,000 for the Olympics) for cricket dwarfs even that of the SCG. After nearly a decade of hosting rugby, soccer and Aussie Rules Football, it was confirmed as an international cricket venue in 2012 when Australia played India in a one-off T20I. It has since become the home ground of the Sydney Thunder in he BBL. There have been no Tests or ODIs played at this venue yet.

This venue will host a total of 3 matches in Champions League XV, including two in the "Super Fours" stage of the competition. It is set to host a List-A match for the first time since January 2005.
The Stadium Australia pitch was once slow and beneficial to spin bowlers. The groundsmen have worked tirelessly to turn it into a fast bouncy wicket with quick runs on offer for batsmen.

North Sydney Oval, North Sydney
leJt.jpg

The North Sydney Oval is one of the oldest cricketing grounds in Australia, dating back to 1867 when it's first cricket pitch was laid out. It has also hosted Women's Test and one-day matches. Despite this, the only men's tournaments that have taken place in the venue are that of Australia's domestic first-class and List-A competitions. The ground has a capacity of 20,000 and is a prominent venue for Rugby Union matches and outdoor cinema.

This venue will be used only in the group stages of Champions League XV, hosting 3 matches across three rounds.
For most part of the 20th century, The North Sydney Oval was one of the most dangerous venues for batsmen, and was given the nickname "Concrete Park". In recent times though, the pitch has been renovated and made to be a good batting wicket. It still remains a good venue for fast bowling.

Bankstown Oval, Sydney
6Lzc0.jpg

The Bankstown Oval is ground with a capacity of 8,000 used mostly for cricket and AFL matches. It's first cricket match of any importance dates back to 1949, though it didn't become a first-class venue until November 1996. It has also hosted international matches for Women's cricket and generally plays home to the New South Wales cricket team in the Sheffield Shield and Australia's domestic List-A competition. There haven't been any Test or ODIs in men's cricket played here till date.

A total of 3 matches, all in the group stages of Champions League XV, have been allotted to this venue.
The Bankstown Oval pitch tends either be evenly balanced or extremely bowler-friendly without prior warning. The small size of the ground also makes six hitting easier on days when the pitch isn't doing much, which could lead to a big total every now and then.

Drummoyne Oval, Drummoyne
A1WDY.jpg

The Drummoyne Oval is a ground used primarily for cricket matches, while also being used for Rugby Union and Aussie Rules football from time to time. It has a capacity of 5,000. The venue's highest claim to fame is hosting five matches in the 2009 Women's Cricket World Cup. However, the highest honors it has been given in men's cricket is 5 List-A matches played sporadically over a period of 12 years since 2003 and one Youth Test involving India in 1994/95. The number of List-A matches are likely to double with five Matador BBQs One-Day matches set to be played here in the 2015/16 season.

The Drummoyne Oval will be needed to host only 2 matches in the group stage of Champions League XV, with one of it's potential matches being given away to the 16 times larger Stadium Australia.
The Drummoyne Oval pitch offers a good deal of assistance to spin bowling with it's occasionally turning wickets. It's short boundaries are just as likely to favor big-hitting batsmen.

Hurstville Oval, Hurstville
HurstvilleResized_zpsuz7idm5t.jpg

The Hurstville Oval is perhaps one of the smallest grounds to be used for staging first-class and List-A matches in Australian domestic cricket, with a capacity of just 1,000. After being opened in 1911, it's early unofficial matches involved Australian greats like Warren Bardsley and Sir Don Bradman. But it has hosted top level cricket matches only sporadically since becoming a first-class venue in 1995, although Cricket Australia's decision to stage every Australian domestic List-A competition in Sydney since 2013/14 has made it a more active venue of late.

This venue was brought in as a last minute replacement for the Alan Davidson Oval which was reduced to hosting just one warm-up match in Champions League XV. It is set to host 3 group stage matches before the Super Fours and final go to the more noteworthy venues of Sydney.
The Hurstville Oval pitch and it's short boundaries are a batsman's delight. It was probably the main reason behind it replacing the Alan Davidson Oval as a venue of Champions League XV.

Alan Davidson Oval, Sydney Park
8c5Df.jpg

The Alan Davidson Oval is a cricket ground located within Sydney Park. Named after the legendary Australian all-round cricketer Alan Davidson, this venue has seen no real matches of importance since Tasmania taking on the touring New Zealanders for a couple of matches in 2002/03, one of which they only narrowly lost by 4 runs. Since 2009, there have been absolutely no cricket matches worthy of a CricketArchive scorecard at all.

Understandably, it was denied the privilege of hosting anything other than one warm-up match for Champions League XV.

The Alan Davidson Oval pitch is expected to favor ball over bat, making room for low-scoring thrillers.

1) Most wins in their group or in the Super 4s, whichever is applicable.
2) Higher net run rate.
3) Winners of head-to-head matches.
4) Higher number of wickets per ball.
- If the final is tied, the following methods will be taken into account to decide the winner :-
1) Lesser number of wickets down.
2) Better finish the the group stage.
3) Higher run rate in the first 20 overs of an innings.

Player Clash rules

The Champions League features players who have been contracted to play for more than one franchise. The Player Clash rules are used to avoid them from clashing when their franchises have a fixture with each other.

1) Players contracted as locals by a particular team will be declared available for selection to their home team, and subsequently declared unavailable for selection to their overseas team in case of a player clash.
2) Players contracted as overseas professionals by two teams having a fixture together will be declared available randomly for either one of the two teams involved. If there is only one such player clashing, he will be declared unavailable for the match.
3) In a match involving more than two player clashes, where both teams happen to be foreign to the players clashing, one or more players will be declared unavailable at random for the match in question.

Summary

Champions League XV, the fifteenth edition of the Champions League, was hosted by Australia between 26 October to 30 November 2015, using the game's List-A format. All the 17 matches that took place were played in the city of Sydney, thus making it the first Champions League tournament to be confined to a single city. VC the slogger, who managed the league two seasons previously, returned to his post as league manager.

There were 8 teams contesting this time; exactly half of the number of teams that played in the previous season. The eight participating teams were divided into two groups of four each, with the two best performing teams from each group making it to the "Super 4s" stage of the competition. The two top-ranked teams would go on to qualify for the final. The dominant Rest of Pakistan Rams made it through to the Super 4s alongside Hobart Tigers from Group A, while Kilkenny Pelicans and Jamaica Bandits followed suit from Group B.

The Super 4s which involved the two top-ranked teams from Group A and Group B facing each other, were thoroughly dominated by the Rest of Pakistan Rams, who won both their matches by big margins and qualified for the final quite easily. Hobart Tigers and Jamaica Bandits won and lost a match each, but the former's superior net run rate saw them jump ahead of the latter to face the Rest of Pakistan Rams in the final. Kilkenny Pelicans finished winless in the Super 4s after an impressive showing the the group stages, and crashed out alongside Jamaica.

Hobart Tigers overcame all odds to beat a mighty Rest of Pakistan outfit containing the some of the biggest names in present day cricket such as AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shane Watson, Stuart Broad and Saeed Ajmal. They won by just 1 run, despite Watson hitting a memorable last-ball six; thus denying the Rest of Pakistan Rams a chance of making history by becoming the first Pakistani franchise to lift the coveted Champions League trophy. AB de Villiers was declared Player of the Season after a stellar showing with the bat for the Rest of Pakistan Rams and Kilkenny Pelicans.
