IPL 10 Teams to Play in IPL 2011

Lalit Modi has confirmed that in 2011 there will be 10 teams in the IPL and not 8. He thinks this will make the tournament more interesting.

JOHANNESBURG: Buoyed by the success of the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), its chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi said the eight-team tournament will be expanded to 10 teams in 2011.

Modi said the IPL will be back in India next year and the cramped International Cricket Council (ICC) schedule does not leave any room for the possibility of a second IPL in a calendar year in 2010.

"We have been missing India but we have made a strong fan base in South Africa. We have a tight schedule next year. We will have two more teams in the league," said Modi.

Modi, who is also the vice president of the Indian cricket board, said that organising the IPL in South Africa was a great experience.

"We had a great time in South Africa. Everything was perfect. I am satisfied with the way the tournament was successfully conducted here at such a short time," he said.

yeah i wud love to see more teams much more competitive, and i guess modi is making more money so he is encashin the opportunity so v might see to more ipl games in 1 season

How about starting IPL Division 1 and IPL Division 2 instead of just increasing the number of teams?

Great, more teams so an even longer tournament for everyone outside of India to get bored of. Twice a year along with Champions League means we'll be celebrating the one week a year when T20 isn't being played soon.

Will be good for international guys not getting games at the moment. Its a good idea to increase teams rather than internationals per team.

Don't see how. They'll still be sitting in the dugout, just for more matches. Actually means there will just be more players taken from Internationals and their domestic leagues just to run on with the drinks.

Obviously these 2 teams will just get the scraps, since so many players have already been bought. Or...they'll have to spend big bucks to buy players from the other teams.

Maybe its time to split the fixtures to a group system just like the world cup.

Hey mate i think it is ipl 2010 yaa its really intrusting that there will be 10 teams in ipl 2010 it will be more intrusting and there will be more players we can see in ipl

Ahmedabad and Gwalior can come in looking at fan base and stadium facilities.

Also matches will reduce since teams will be split in North and South groups. Good that way Kings XI dont have to face Chennai.

They will surely have. Even that Tyagi guy in CSK is from UP.

Hardly any local players play in the respective franchise and UP has worst facilities so no foreigner will wanna go there
