It was a big day. Sam really wanted a result. He knew it would be a hard game but he thought if the players were up for it, they could do it.
The game started at a good tempo, and it wasn't long at all before the first goal. Given kicked the ball out only to be picked up in midfield by a City player. A good passing move by City lead to a shot by Dicov, only to be parried away by Given, but straight to Hamann, and he coolly taped it away. This wasn't good news for Sam, it meant the players confidence had gone down right from the off. They would have to fight hard top win it now, with the City fans behind their team. There was hope though, when Dunne's rash challenge meant he was off, as he was last man. The free-kick ended in nothing, but this could be a key moment in the game, it was 10 against 11. The game settled down for a bit, but there was a free-kick on the right, and it was whipped in, Vassell the only man insight, nodded it in, and City were two-nil up. Allardyce was less than impressed with what he was seeing and wanted he team to show a bit more fight than this. When it was half-time, he was waiting in the changing room, and gave the players a right rollicking. He asks them "Where is the passion? Do you understand who you are playing for, show some fight, some spirit, I expect nothing less in the 2nd half". The talking to did not work though, as only two minutes in Duff was sent off for his second yellow. The teams were equal in players now, the last thing Big Sam wanted, he stared at Damien as he walked past, Duff did not dare hazard a look and walked past Sam and set in the seats above the dugout. The 2nd half wore on, without much excitement. It ended, and the point at which the whistle went, Sam finally saw how much work he had to do with this squad. The transfer market was over, he had to install some fight in these players, otherwise this season would not be a good one.
Sam hoped the next game, against the big rivals, Sunderland, was more competitive, he thought to himself, this is just the game we need when we looked so uninspired today.

Again, this is your chance to ask the post-match questions, and gain a better insight into the thinking of Big Sam.
Please comment as well, as it gives me a lot of encouragement to update, and I am sorry about the lack of an update for a long time
