It is brilliant. The competition is absolutely amazing! I myself play as the Portuguese, Dutch, and Germans. Its easily one of the best RTS's I've played.

But there are a few problems. Ottomans are bloody op. : Their rush is unstoppable. Only France, with their super villagers can stop it. Apart from that, the game is really balanced. Each civ has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, the Poruguese have a great economy and great infantry, but no artillery.

It certainly is real fun to play with realistic graphics and high detail but I too think that perhaps the expectations were too high !!!

Er...Civ 4 is Turn Based Strategy...AoE 3 is RTS...two entirely different games.

Civ 4 is brilliant, but games get over too fast now.
