Any Improvements?

Personally, I think Cricket Zone has gotten too complicated. Organisation is irrelevant if people no longer bother checking a sub forum because it contains only one relevant thread.
Which forum are you talking about. In general though, if there is a relevant thread you want to read wouldn't it be easier to find in the new structure?

And I kinda agree, this skin is too bright.
All of the skins take a bit of time to get used to, it was actually made slightly darker in parts from the original but I think the colours are good now.

On the new structure, there isn't too much change from the previous. The main difference is having a separate place for you to talk about Domestic or Club games. The International Cricket forum is the Cricket Chat forum from our previous layout minus the Domestic and Club chat.

i quite like the new skin, but saying that i doubt i will use it as i will prob go back to planet cricket 3.6.5.

good idea to split the domestic and international cricket forums up but is there that many threads about peoples own cricket to warrent a 'your cricket' section?

Well part of the idea is to get more discussion on those areas, the idea being that because of the new forum more people will post about that sort of stuff.

has the ICC forum been moved up i the games list or always been 2nd? im sure it used to be below Brian Lara

Not sure I like the new skin, would probably use it if it weren't so bright, so its back to the cricket style for me.

I quite like the new cricket chat forum structure, although I'm not sure if the international subforum needs 3 further subforums anymore (current, future and past). I never much liked that system, but with less threads going in there now is there a need for seperate forums?

Edit: Additionally, I'm not quite sure if the cricket news subforum is required now. I just spent a couple of seconds looking for a thread I wanted in the indian domestic subforum only to find that it's in the cricket news forum. In all honesty pretty much all threads when they start are news, but the discussions in the threads are opinion so it ceases to be a news thread. For example my English Domestic movers and shakers thread is in British Cricket but its a thread about player transfers, surely this is news? Parallel to this there are threads in the news forum about specific player movements already mentioned in the movers and shakers thread.

Any parts in particular too bright? The skin can always be tweaked, though I personally don't think it is too bright, but I've been using it for nearly a month now, perhaps it is just the shock of the change.

Well the other option is to dump them all into the main forum and sticky the current events.

The news section is there partially for the benefit of the portal and the latest news thing that appears in the top right of the new skin, so someone can go to one place to get the news, rather than having to look through threads.

The thing that perhaps needs to be done is to have no replying directly into the news forum and have the discussion go on in the relevant forum. I've seen other sites where there is a centralised news section that then points out to subforums for discussion, either by the article being cross posted and linked to, or by linking to pre-existing discussions on the subject.

Probably just need to dull down the greens a bit

Maybe something a little like this

Sounds good, nice and simple.

Yeah that would work, sort of like the gaming news now. I just think with discussions going on in both forums you either get the info twice or you miss parts of the conversation if you dont see one thread.

I didn't go that far, but I've dulled the most obvious green down a touch. You may need to press Ctrl-F5 to see the change.

I'm referring to the entire Cricket Zone, which now consists of 16 sections. A forum such as the Australian Domestic forum only contains 5 threads. Now on the surface it appears to have better organised these threads by separating them from other threads, but I know I am looking at a bunch of threads that were started in different forums; as would be the case throughout; and most of the posts in this particular sub-forum could have been confined to a single thread. Indeed, only 3 threads are active and within the entire Domestic Cricket forum, there have only been 8 threads active in the past week. Bearing in mind this is not a peak period for domestic cricket, in practical terms a single page of a forum can display 25 threads, so having 4 pages of threads when there might only be a maximum of 20 simultaneously active threads is a little over the top.

Beyond that, it seems certain that numerous forums overlap in context. The Cricket News forum, for one; what defines the difference between a news thread and a thread relevant to domestic or international cricket, or merely even just Cricket Chat? If you start a thread on a current affairs topic without a news article in the first post, where should it go and how many forums must a forumer browse to find such threads? Similarly there are threads in the International Cricket forum for players not playing international cricket. While the threads might be in the most appropriate place, what is preventing confusion for the next forumer to create such a thread? Between the International Cricket forum and the Cricket Chat forum I don't think there have been more than 25 threads active in the past week, so I'm not sure the need for distinction is there.

I know I've blown the word count for a reasonable post on a considerably minor issue, but I wanted to be clear. A lot of threads do need to be kept separate and there are probably only 4 more forums than there need to be, in my opinion, but I think it is at a point where organisational gains are outweighed by the amount of time spent browsing for threads instead of reading them. Plus, it seems that every year or so there seems to be another forum created, suggesting that there could eventually be sub-forums for individual countries and I think that would definitely come as a detriment to the reasons why many of us come here.

Ill pass on the new skin, too white. It wasnt really broke so i dont see a need to fix it.
