Any Improvements?

I have to say after the recent change I much preferred how all the cricket discussion used to be with it all spread out.

Slightly disappointed that the new layout wasn't given much of a chance. I think the separate domestic subforums could have been given more of a go. Whereas the cricket news subforum stays. I know you want the cricket news subforum for the portal page, but to be honest how often do people look at the portal page? Once a day max. Myself I never look at it,I link straight to the forum.

I see it about 10 times a day, when I am coming back from *other sites* :spy

But do you read it 10 times a day Lee? Or do you just click through? Do you even read it once a day?

If people actually wrote the articles it might be worth it, but they are just quotes from other sites. Might as well be RSS feeds.

I read anything that's new. Sometimes the same thing is there for days on end.

I too think that the portal isn't of much use. Why would anyone go there? I come straight to the forums. And shouldn't the april fool joke be removed by now?

When there is a press release for a game, you will see it first there.

And, it seems right going to planetcricket.org first instead of planetcricket.org/forums. Strange.

I'm not saying the portal isn't of any use, what I am saying is I'm not sure its the right decision to arrange the forums around the portal page. Its much better to arrange the forums logically and so threads can be easily found by navigating the index. I liked the separate domestic forums as to be quite honest I have no interest in reading about Indian or Australian domestic cricket (well very little) as I suspect most Indians or Australians aren't particularly bothered about the English scene. With all the stuff going on domestically in India I would have thought that forum would have a lot of posts. Yes the British forum was quiet but the season hasn't started yet.

This is very true. There wasn't much discussion in the English forum because there's nothing to discuss!

I think we should have stuck with it. It seems whatever the guys do everyone thinks it is the wrong move. As others have pointed out the English Domestic Section was deserted because there is nothing happening. It takes time for people to get used to a new layout. I think we should have stuck at it for a bit longer but then again that is just my own personal opinion

I think previous experience shows that Aussie, Indian and English domestic scenes don't need their own sub-forum, it's mostly kept to one thread anyway.

From a moderators perspective and I will quote from the staff room.

"I think Cricket news works really well, but I think the Cricket events is too split up and it makes it harder to moderate I think."

I'd also like to point out, it was a fairly unanimous decision. The domestic scene has interest, but it rarely ventures out of 1/2 threads per country.

But only because all domestic chat would have been directed to the one thread, in the past extra threads opened up for anything domestic have been closed. I think it shows how the site is losing its way when we have a whole forum for football but anything relating to domestic cricket is kept rigidly to one thread. I'd have thought the idea of separate forums would have been to encourage more varied discussion on domestic cricket.

I really can't see how cricket news "works really well". If you are looking for a thread you have to look in two forums as its just not clear what belongs in where. What's the point of having separate forums at all if you have a catch-all forum under the news banner? You can pretty much start any thread in the news forum cricket related, why bother with the other forums at all?
