Aussies , which team do u think can beat ur team?

saisrini you might be wrong here on both counts...
1) Had Team India used their brains well in the recently concluded BG trophy, we would have beaten the Aussies at least 2-1...but they rested on the laurels of the past rather than looking at what might be coming and the fact that the whole of their team had played a long ODI tournament here in 2003...they used the pate only once when the series was alive - in Chennai - 1st day...

2) the people in CA and BCCI are talkin abt making this feature a biannual one...that means a BG Trophy every two years - like Ashes...

Ok sachinisgod, but thats in the past. I still feel India can produce the same close series battles with Australia as it was before..

I didnt know abt the talk between CA and BCCI.. If it is true, then exciting!! An India-Australia encounter is always entertaining!

So, you think the Indians are dumb fellows who cannot work their way out of the Australian homework and get back at them?? We also have brains sir!! Mind you, the next series between the two would be in 2008!! Who knows what the situation might be at that time?

I'm not prepared to let this thread turn into an Indian/Aussie shouting match. Please don't over-read innocuous posts.

Sorry. But i feel when the Aussie supporters put down our team, how can I not state our side of the coin??

Because we're seeing exactly the same arguements in every thread. There's also a fine line between responding to a well-made point and taking offence and starting flaming which is what I'm keen to avoid.
This isn't aimed just at you, it's at everyone.

saisrini you missed the point of my post. I was offering up my opinion as the theme of the thread asked me to. No need to argue mate...

and thinking about it now, in the one-day arena i think a NZ outfit with Shane Bond fit would pose the biggest threat to Australia for a series win at the current time.

Australia are far from invincible in the ODI game because a ODI game has a very important luck factor. I think any of the following teams could beat Australia in a series, especially if its a bilateral ODI series and not some 4-round tri-series where each round brings more boredom:

England, India, South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies, New Zealand, Sri Lanka (did I miss any?). It all comes down to where you are playing, too.

At least they do crumble but they always have someone who manages to put them back on track (****es me off sometimes). That is probably what still keeps the Aussies a bit ahead of everyone else in the ODI format. They are able to make opportunities out of seemingly hopeless situations.

Well,SA might give the Aussies a run for their money. We have had a bad run previously, but these wins have given our players confidence. We have a good middle order and an aggressive lower order.Bowling just needs some work, but the side last chosen might work.

Personally, I think the best chance any team has of beating Australia in ANY form of the game is right now. They have had a fairly ordinary summer batting-wise is both forms of the game. The top order has crumbled several times and it has been left to middle and lower order to recover.
The bowling has been as good as ever though, and that is what has kept them winning.
I think New Zealand will be tough to beat in the ODI's, but Tests will be a little different.
The Ashes will be very interesting, I think it will come down to who is mentally tougher and who can field the fittest team. Australia are known for their mental toughness, but I don't think Ponting has that hard edge that Waugh had. England will be very hungrey and that will make them tough.
But, I think it will come down to bowlers. Warne and McGrath bowl very well in England, if they fire Australia will win.

Bowlers are the people who win test matches (and a signficant portion of ODI matches). I mean, you require 20 wickets to win a test match--simply put. Australia have the world's top seam bowler (McGrath), top pace bowler (Gillespie), top super-fast bowler (Brett Lee), top old-ball bowler (Kasprowicz), top leg-spinner (Warne). They have someone for every department. Except for an off-spinner, but anyone can play those guys these days. Apart from that, everyone from 1-11 have some batting talent, and can win games on their days (by staying in or blasting a few).

As for the Harmison story--I think one of the reasons he wasn't as successful in RSA (despite his injuries) was that it was the first time he really met a quality opposition. Or an opposition of any quality. He may be the next big thing but he is an undeveloped talent. England's repeated competition with below-par teams has inflated their ego and their confidence. They can now ride on that confidence by beating Australia or return down to earth. However, even down-to-earth, they are probably the second-best team in the game, now.

ur right bout harmi, windies aren't as a good a test side as before and so he took advantage of that!
