Adelaide Crunchers VS Guyana Hurricanes
Group A Match 1
Austrio Caribbean Championship

Well it was the opening match of this tournament and it was Australia's Adelaide Cruncher's taking on West Indies based team Guyana Hurricanes. It was a group A encounter and the other team in the group was Sydney Lions.

Shiv Chanderpaul the Hurricanes captain won the toss and elected to bowl first. Shivi said he would like to restrict the Crunchers for 150 odd runs and it would be easy to chase 150ish total. Meanwhile Callum Ferguson the Crunchers skipper said he would have bowled too but with them batting first they will try to post a decent first innings total on board.

Let's have a look at the line-ups for each side.

Adelaide Crunchers: M Jayawardene, B McCullum? , C Ferguson*, A Blizzard, M Klinger, D Christian, A O'Brien, S Tait, N Lyon, P George, C Langeveldt

Guyana Hurricanes: S Tendulkar, N O'Brien? , S Chaderpaul*, S Chattergoon, N Deonarine, S Afridi, J Foo, C Barnwell, H Singh, D Bishoo, R Beaton

The first 50 of ACC was scored and it was scored by none other then the Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardhane. The Adelaide Crunchers were pretty dreadful in their batting display as no one other then Jayawardhane showed the resistance to bat on what looked like a difficult batting track. Chanderpaul decided to bowl first and he and his bowlers would be pleased with the way they bowled. The Hurricanes were perfectly accurate with their line and length. Shahid Afridi who in recent times had great form with his bowling proved his critics right. He bowled magnificently as he gave just 16 runs and took 2 wickets. Ronsford Beaton also picked up 3 wickets and Indian offspinner Harbhajan Singh who off late have struggled with form picked up 2 wickets but gave away 35 runs in his allotted 4 overs. Late resistance from Nathan Lyon and Peter George insured that Adelaide reach a decent score of 143.

Hurricanes needed a mediocre total of 144 in 20 overs but there was a lot of dependency on Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar and Shahid Afridi. Hurricanes in the auction bought only 2 heavy weight batsman's and the middle order although consisting of good West Indian batsman looked pretty dicey.

Sachin Tendulkar lived up to the expectations and scored a quick half century making 2nd of the match. In his half century there were brilliant cover drives, off drives and straight drives which sums up proper cricketing shots. Naill O'Brien who gave Sachin a steady support scored 11 runs of 11 deliveries he faced but what was crucial was the opening partnership of 65 runs of just 5 overs. After the wicket of Naill O Brien Sachin batted cautiously but was done by a beauty of a delivery from Charl Langeveldt who knocked his middle and off stump. A mini collapse was followed as Chanderpaul the Hurricanes skipper and Chattergoon soon followed Tendulkar back to pavilion. Game was wide open at half way mark of second innings as Hurricanes were 86/4. It was Narsinghe Deorine and Shahid Afridi who were at crease. Things were looking good for Crunchers as they gave only 21 runs in 5 overs and Hurricanes needed 37 in final 5 overs until Shahid Afridi tornado struck. Shahid Afridi struck Peter George for 18 runs in the 16th over but Daniel Christian bowled an excellent maiden 17th over. Callum Ferguson took a risk and handed the ball to Peter George again and Shahid Afridi smashed for 20 runs which ended the innings giving Hurricanes an early but important victory over Adelaide Crunchers.

Perth Lions VS Trinidad Flyers
Group B Match 1
Austrio Caribbean Championship

Well it was the second match between the West Indian side Trinidad and Australian side Perth. Both look very good on paper and were about tot take on each other on a tricky pitch where batting is not going to be easy. Perth have some solid batting lineup with Shaun Marsh and Pomersbach opening whereas no other opening pair could be as dangerous as the Trinidad one where Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle will open for them.

As expected Chris Gayle and Sehwag gave a flying start to the flyers as they reached 41 runs in 4 overs before they lost their first wicket of Chris Gayle, Sehwag off late has been in awful form and his awful form continued. He played a slowish 17 ball 14 runs innings before Flyers lost their second wicket on 54. They added a mere 13 runs in 20 deliveries after Gayle departed. Not long and Flyers lost the Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara and they were 75/3 in 10 overs. A small collapse and a slow innings from Darren Bravo saw Flyers slump to 101/6 in 16 overs before Sherwin Ganga and Pollard smashed Lion's bowlers out of the park for some wonderful boundaries. In the end Pollard and Ganga added 43 runs in 22 deliveries out of which Ganga smashed Lions for 30 runs in 15 balls helping Flyers reach a respectable target of 144

Perth Lions had a strong batting lineup and needed 145 runs at 7.7 rpo. Having the best lineup does not always help when bowlers from the other side extract some good swing and seam. Dwayne Bravo and Zaheer ripped apart the top order and Perth were struggling on 25/5 at the 7th over. Dwayne Bravo picked up 3 wickets and Zaheer Khan picked up 2 wickets. It was a small but a much needed partnership between Marcus North and Daniel Vettori before another collapse triggered. From being 61/5 they lost out 3 wickets and ended up on 62/8. Victory was highly impossible and a huge defeat was surety. Completing the formalities Gayle and Pollard picked up Malinga and Rimmington and Perth were bowled out for 81. It was a big victory for Trinidad and will definitely help them when things come on NRR.
