Best Cricket Shots of the Decade | [2000-2009] |

LOL your friend lied to you. There is a reason Khalek said "AshraFOOL" the dude is horrible. He probably thought he was the king of the world when he had that great innings in the net west series and fell apart from there. The captaincy didn't help and he just kept on failing.

Yeah actually tbh most Bangladeshis sound like fools when they say Ashraful is the Sachin of Bangladesh. Yes he's helped us taste couple of great victories but also it's true that in his whole span of career he's lost us many many games as well and his captaincy was idiotic.

He can't even dream of becoming the 's' of Sachin Tendulkar.

I know re. Subcontinent fans are very passionate. Ashraful was good until 2007-08 but then completely fell apart. He seems to be coming into his own again, which is good news for Bangladesh :)

Mohammad Ashraful, are you Sachin Tendulkar in disguise?

Amirite? Amirite? :D

Yes yes :laugh

OK, the first time I ever saw the shot the Dilshan plays (dilscoop) , was by Brendon McCullum against Australia around 5 years ago. And it wasnt the one over fine leg... it was the shot over the keeper. Dilshan has played it so well, and frequently since, But the first time I ever saw it was a long time ago by McCullum.

^ I remember Javagal Srinath playing the Dilscoop in 1998-1999. Start calling it Sri-scoop everyone or else risk a call to the Match Ref's cabin :laugh

I played it before all of you....

...and then there was Misbah :laugh

ASHRAFOOL played the scoop in the Natwest series 2005 before anyone else in ODIs. :)

Nah, he played that way before then. He played it during the 1st series after Dev Whatmore had came in, v the Zims, 03-04. The 1st win after 4 years match.

But it's not his shot either. It's called the Marillier Scoop. And there is a reason for that. Dude named Marillier from Zims played that shot v McGrath. But after him Ashfool was the 1st 1 to copy it, and play it on regular biases. But now that Dilscoop is out, and every 1 playing that Mari-Scoop, it doesnt look as cool. so Ash failed there too...

wait then wtf is a paddle scoop

MacLovin added 5 Minutes and 11 Seconds later...

Paddle scoop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ok so my avatar is a Paddle Scoop. then WTF is a Mari-shot

Watch the IPL highlights of his 158*. He plays one exactly like what you people call the Dilshan one right over himself. The second one is like this. The first one is indeed more over fine leg.

McCullum played it before Dilshan and I think even before McCullum other players had done it a little. Calling it the Dilscoop because Dilshan "invented it" like most people think is bollocks. He copied other players.

In saying all this, he does use it more than anyone else does and seems to practice it more. So i'll give him that.

he went for the clipped sweep shot and didn't hit very well so it went really fine. it's still a clip off the bat, using the pace of the ball and directing it, the dilscoop plays in the direction the ball is rising and goes straight up into it.

that shot mccullum played could never land on the offside of the field. the dilscoop could land either off or on.

khalek, mccullums shot was the marillier, it's when you use the pace of the ball and the bat as a sort of angled ramp. it's more of a flick.

the dilscoop is in that mould, but it's like calling a cover drive an on-drive.

the bat is pointing exactly inline with ball.

marillier, also played by dilshan and probably wrongly called a dilscoop by the commentator when it happened.

the paddle scoop is the one misbah got out to in the last ball of the 2007 twenty20.

That Marilier shot lost us a game we had pretty much won in the year 2002. I see no reason why people should credit Dilu with the shot when it was Doug who actually played it before everyone else did, although Srinath played it before everyone else :p

Thanks for the explanation Stinky, it's clear to me now. TBH I think Dilshan deserves that shot to be called after his name since he's been playing it on a regular basis and the Marillier guy has vanished, he's probably played it once in his whole life.

As far as the paddle scoop is concerned, it was definitely Ashraful who popularised it at the international level when no one used to play this shot. During 2003-2005, batsmen at the death would just improvise a bit to hit the ball a bit squarer but Ashraful's intention most of the time was to play the ball finer and with T20 becoming more and more popular, this scoop shot became very common.

i dont think you understand. these are 2 different shots. Marilier Shot, which he has been given credit for. thats why its called MARILIER :sarcasm

Dilscoop is the 1st pic that stinky posted. and thats different from Marilier shot, and thats why its called the Dilscoop. that 1 has nothing to do with Mariler

did you even read Stinky's post?

The debate evolve over which stump is left standing!

they look like same shot, taken from different angles

(i know i know 6x6s, kind of sixer and all that!! i am just saying, those shots look very similer)
