In cricket, teams are always building towards the future. But what future, we live in the present and at some time you will have to fill a team of people in their prime. India seemed intent on not picking Kumble for this reason in ODIs, why?

Is there a secret event every 50 years that noone has told me about?

Maybe teams should start thinking about one series a year (India Vs Pakistan, Ashes, World Cup...etc) where all this future building can come into work and maybe each of these should be a bigger event, in general. The World Cup these days is a farce since Australia seem to have it in the palms of their hands with other teams "fielding a young side" in thw hope that they will grow into a team of super-men, but it most likely won't happen.

Your view please, when teams are constantly building to the future, what future is this; the Ashes (what about other countries)?

Rant over...thank you for your time :p

I don't think people field a young side in the World Cup. I think most teams are/were concentrating on a team that could win the World Cup, except maybe England, who only seem to care about The Ashes. Australia shouldn't be looked at as an example because they have won it 3 times in a row, so there desire to win it may be lesser.

Australia seem to have set themselves up in such a way that if they prepare equally to other teams they can handle any situation.

Last world cup answered a lot of questions if any were there for australia. They went to 7 down vs England, but Bichel and Bevan saved it. Even in the recent champs trophy, they never lost their cool even if wickets went quick.

There are off days for aus, but that is only when othe other team doesnt loose its cool on the day. And the thing is Aus seem to have set it up nicely at the domestic level as well.

The other teams jus do not have their domestic cricket up to the standard of australian or South African cricket. South africa seem to have it set well too, but in my opinion if there was no quota system we might actually see south africa- aus matches go till the lastball all the time. Maybe pietersen would have support in the middle order instead of the way it is today for him with england.

England on the other hand have the opposite problem. They have an awesome domestic setup, but their management makes terrible decisions. And if the ashes are the only thing which england cares about, well they made the biggest mess up there. They couldnt even prepare for that. They flew back to englandafter the champs trophy, and got rid of their bowling coach from the last ashes. Why would anyone do that especially after a horrendous Champs Trophy?

If Bangladesh had as many matches and facilities as england had, imagine where they would be today.
