Currently West Indies, in the Reliance Mobile ICC Test Rankings, rank on 8th position just above Newzealand with a difference of 1 point.
For the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Rankings, West Indies currently rank 8th again but are way behind the 7th spot Newzealand with a difference of 29 points. Currently, Bangladesh and West Indies are tied on 8th Position with 67 points each and its going very difficult for West Indies cricket to push up the rankings and play consistently.

With the Shiv Chanderpaul 4th in the ICC Test Batsman ratings & Chris Gayle 7th in the ICC ODI Batsman ratings, its always too much burden over these two to see West Indies through whenever they bat, other then that, no Bowler in the ICC Rankings.

Disputes over central contract & huge amount of injuries to key players have added more trouble, despite these trouble West Indies cricket is looking forward for a much improved ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

It's the first T20 between the South Africans and the West Indian team. This is the first T20 match in the 2 T20 match series. West Indies had reached the super 8 in the World T20 here in West Indies few week back. They are best known for hard hitting batsman in the side with the likes of Pollard,Gayle and the Bravo brothers.

The pitch looks like it's suitable for batsman but it's still on the slower side. Batting first must be what a team winning the toss should be looking to.

Let's Have A Look At The Toss

So the West Indies skipper Chris Gayle won the toss and elected to bat first. They have gone with Darren Bravo in the side, so may be Chanderpaul or Sarwan will be opening alongside Chris Gayle.

Let's straight away go down to the action where Chris Gayle is on strike and ready to face De Wet.

So,unexpectedly Darren Bravo opened the innings for West Indies. Chanderpaul or Sarwan were expected but may be some kind of strategy by the West Indies team to strength up the batting in the middle.

For those who are new to West Indies cricket and do not know much about Darren Bravo, Darren Bravo is brother of Dwayne Bravo and is a left hand batsman who played First Class Cricket and List A matches for Trinidad & Tobago in 2007.He is an occasional Wicket Keeper and gives a side an option to play an extra batsman.He debuted at international level against India in 2009 at Kingston. He has played only 1 T20 against the Zimbabwe team but did not get chance to bat.

Over 2,3,4

West Indies after a slow start in the first over,where they just scored 5 runs are back with a bang at the end of 4th over. Darren Bravo has proved his selection right by playing some mind blowing shots for his 10 ball 18 runs. For the Protean the start is not good. Morne Morkel has been smashed all over the park by Darren Bravo as well as Chris Gayle. Darren has hit 3 boundaries in Morne's over whereas Gayle has hit 1. Friedel de Wet on the other hand bowled a nice length over first up and a lose delivery in the 2nd over cost his excellent 2nd over.

West Indies are really looking in a nice position, that is the start is really nice. 33 runs in 3 overs. Bravo has played some beautiful shots.

West Indies were 38/0 at the end of 4 overs, where Morne Morkel was taken apart and smashed all around the ground by Darren Bravo and Chris Gayle. Chris Gayle soon departed in the Bowling of Friedel de Wet. Gayle was Caught and Bowled on 20 from 15 deliveries smashing 3 boundaries. To be honest he never looked in good touch and the wicket was round the corner.

Next came in was Shiv Chanderpaul who with the help of Darren Bravo continued the scoring of runs where, Bravo did the major hitting part.

West Indies played their first ever T20 against Newzealand in Auckland and the match was a tied encounter. Newzealand then won the match through bowlout

Ryan McLaren and Makhaya Ntini were soon introduced into the attack and they bowled some crucial deliveries which were unplayable by Darren and Shiv both. This cause the young Darren lose concentration and cost his wicket.

Darren Bravo was out hitting a stupid shot in McLaren's over for 30 runs of 18 balls hitting 5 boundaries.Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shiv Chanderpaul then steadied the innings untill the end of 10 overs but the scoring rate dipped drastically down to 7.1 rpo. West Indies just managed 33 runs in 6 overs.
