Wow, not bad then. I've tried David Hussey in there, but he just seems to get scores above 50 but below 100. Has a major trouble in converting...

Yeah, might wanna put some youth in the side, just to build the team. Dave Hussey goes the same for me as well, never converts.

Yeah, I'm going to try that Usman Khawaja guy from NSW as an opener. Trying with some youth here. And maybe bring in Clint McKay as a fast bowler.

Has anyone every tried John Hastings? Can you see how good he is for you on your game?

What does Hughes average for you? He seems to score a hundred for you every game.

Australia Victorious in the Greatest Test of All-Time

95898.jpg

Watson proves to be the last day hero, claiming a five-fer as Australia pulled off an unlikely victory

Australia have pulled off a magnificent victory in the second Ashes test match from Adelaide Oval, which has been hailed as the greatest test of all time. All rounder Shane Watson was the hero, with 5 second innings wickets as Australia managed to bowl out the English on the final day of the test with 4 balls remaining and England only 2 runs short of a victory. The series is level at 1-1 after the second test.

The first day at Adelaide Oval was a gloomy one as the conditions overhead threatened rain, but the heavens stayed shut and play got underway on schedule. Debutant, Khawaja, who replaced the out of form Katich, was out early as the top three all failed to make an impact in the opening session. Good bowling from Anderson and Onions early on enabled England to go into Lunch in a good position. After the break Clarke and North, who have a good record batting together, pulled off yet another 100 run partnership as both batsman passed 50. Both batsman were out LBW and the score was looking shaky after Watson came in and only made 33. Haddin, coming in after missing the first test with a back injury, made a much needed 59 as debutant McKay and bowler Clark made 64 between them with some massive sixes being hit. The big news to come out of the innings was that fast bowler Peter Siddle was struck on the ribs by a Stuart Broad bouncer and has had scans which reveal a fracture and is now in doubt for the third test. Australia made a decent 343 from 89 overs. in tough conditions early on in the day.

England had a tough job to see off the new ball late on day one, but the one over from Stuart Clark brought no wicket. The day started well for England as Cook and Strauss went on to put 166 for the first wicket. The loss of Siddle proved costly as Australia struggled for the breakthrough. Clark finally got Cook caught behind for 54 and soon after, Peitersen was caught at slip by Ponting for just 19. At 2-200, England still looked like posting a score above 400 and with Clark, Johnson and McKay tiring, Watson was called upon to bowl a few more overs then he would of liked. Middle order batsman Ravi Bopara silenced the critcs by scoring a hundred as he and Strauss piled on the runs. Strauss was the main man for England though as the captain scored a magnificent double century but then handed McKay his first test wicket, caught by Watson for 203. The run rate was a problem for the Australians as England went on a rampage, blasting their score of 513 from just 125 overs. With a lead of 170, England looked set for an easy victory.

The Australian batsman had a huge job to do, being 170 runs down, and the one man they have relied on so often did it again. Michael Clarke's innings of 146 was an absolute gem, in which no other batsman passed 50 but everyone making a start. Clarke's innings astonishing, punishing every bowler to all parts of the ground. But it was Onions who proved the thorn as he got 5 Australian wickets including a very good caught and bowled from Hughes who was looking very steady at the crease. Australia really needed more runs on the board, as they could only manage 396. With four sessions remaining in the match and England needing only 227 runs for victory, the heroics of Clarke seemed pointless as England would cruise to a fith day victory.

106866.jpg

Clarke is very reserved in his celebration as he passes 100 and he knows his job isn't over

With England only needing 227 runs for victory and a commanding 2-0 lead in the series, Australia knew they had a massive task on the final day of the test with strike bowler Siddle out injured. England cruised to 73 without loss as the game looked all but over, England were taking their time at the crease and the frustration began to creep in as the Aussie bowlers walked back to their bowling markers with heads down. Finally, Johnson got a breakthrough, Cook caught behind for 30 and the next wicket didn't take long as Watson snared his first wicket of the match, the in form Strauss for 46. With the openers gone, Australia then had an English middle order who knew the job wasn't finished and that they still had a bit of work to do. Australia, effectively with four bowling options, weren't even though of as chances for a victory, but Clark and co. were very economical in their bowling and a draw was looking a slim chance. Soon, Watson and Johnson, bowling in tandem, got a few more wickets in the session before tea, leaving England 4-150. The match was now in the balance thanks to some good bowling from Watson. 6 wickets needed for an Australian victory was a very unlikey result, but England needed just 70 runs from the final session to secure the win. But all of a sudden, Bell was gone to Johnson for 24 and Watson claimed his fourth wicket of the match, Patel gone for 10. At 6-190 the match was very evenly poised, but with England only needing 36 runs, the 3 wickets and time were probably going to beat Australia. But a quick wicket, the very handy lower order batsman, Broad, was instrumental as Johnson celebrated the wicket as if he'd just bagged a test 10-fer. Ponting was very animated as he called his players into a team huddle. Words were being sprayed by Ponting as he rallied his troops to get behind the bowlers and really try for an amazing victory. With only 2 wickets needed and 34 runs now required, Australia were in command. But a handy knock of 13 by Sidebottom nearly spoilt the party as he and Onions played it safe to get them within 10 runs of a 2-0 series lead. Ponting, who had been trying with Johnson and Clark for most of this third session, threw the ball to a nervous Watson. The move paid dividends as he managed to rattle Onions, getting him with a superb reverse swing delivery that no batsman would of been able to keep out. Out comes Jimmy Anderson with only 3 overs left and 5 runs needed for victory or 1 wicket in the case of the Australians. Clark gets the next over as he bowls very well to Sidebottom who keeps the ball out and manages to score a few runs. England are 9-222 with 2 overs remaining. Anderson is on strike for the Watson over, English hearts are in the mouths as Anderson manages to play and miss at 3 straight balls from Watson then gets a nick that flys past Hughes at 3rd slip and runs for two down to third man. The Barmy Army goes beserk as they realize only 4 runs are needed for the win. The final over is to be bowled and Ponting gives it to Stuart Clark. Clark, who looks as calm as anyone at the ground steams in and gives Sidebottom a good delivery on the stumps but Sidebottom manages to get bat to ball as England need only 2 runs for the win from 5 more deliveries. Clark, steaming in full pace with every fielder in a catching position on the off-side and a ring field stopping the single on the leg side, pitches the ball up to the left hander and rattles his castle! Clark is estatic as every Australian fieldsman runs up and jumps on the tall paceman as Australia celebrate one of the greatest victories from nowhere. Ponting is all grins as Sidebottom and Anderson walk off, heads down, with the Barmy Army now silent after realizing this could be seen as Amazing Adelaide 2. With only 4 balls left in the innings, Australia secured the victory by the second smallest margin possible thanks to a Shane Watson five-fer and a fairytale last over by Stuart Clark.

Third Ashes Test

With the series level at 1-1, the third test from the WACA is very important to both sides. With a dejected England now licking their wounds, Australia now feel they can go on and win the series after a shocking first test effort which saw them go down 0-1.

Both teams will probably make some changes to their XIs with Australia now having the trouble of replacing Peter Siddle who goes out with a back injury. Debutant Khawaja may lose his spot for team balance but fellow debutant McKay seems likely to hold his spot.

Stay tuned for the 3rd Ashes test from Perth, Australia.

Superb close match, good batting by Strauss, Bopara and Clarke, but disappointing first innings for debutant, Khawaja but did the job in the 2nd innings. Good to see this back Hooper ;)

Yeah! I had no idea I was even a chance of winning... I thought it was going to teeter out to a draw, but then to my suprise, Watson, Clark and Johnson bowled an awesome spell each in the final session and set it up for my greatest ever win.

I was stoked.

I'm just enjoying the fact that when I put my whole top order of world class batmsen on ultra defensive, 5 out of the 6 of them don't sky it for scores under 20...
