STANCU SET TO SIGN FOR COVENTRY

Coventry City are set to sign young Unirea Urzicene striker Bogdan Stancu for ?700K. Coventry City manager Craig Tough revealed to Sky Sports News that he had been scouting the player since he arrived at the club. Stancu is a striker and has scored 6 goals in 8 games for the Romainian side and looks quite a talent, and has handed in a transfer request because he wanted to play for a better club and he said hat Covenrty looked the most interested of a few other clubs from a few different countries.

TOUGH HANDED TOUCHLINE BAN

Coventry City's manager Craig Tough has been handed a 3 game touchline ban for his comments at referee Keith Stroud after disallowing 3 of Coventry's goals in a 3-1 defeat to Preston. Pundits on teh BBC have backed Tough and have said all three shoudl have stood, and the FA need to look more closely nto the matter. Tough will now be in the stands for a vital game against Charlton at The Valley in midweek.

Stancu. A player some of you might be familiar with from your games. A lot of people get him. Yes. You Madman :p

Big game up tomorrow! Charlton Athletic vs Coventry City at the Valley! Can Coventry restore confidence arfter a gutting loss to Preston? Or will Tough's team buckle under the pressure? Knowing the normal Coventry it'll be the latter.

You got a 3 match ban?!

Stancu, I have decided, is a steal for £700k, I had to pay £4.2m or summat stupid like that for him.

REALLY?!?!?! Someone else will probably come in for him before he signs, but I have quite a bit of budget left, so hopefully he will come to Coventry :) Next update coming up in the next hour or so. Big on, Charlton v Cov.

Today we travelled to London to play Charlton. Charlton were currently flying high in 2nd place following relegation from the Premiership last season after the departure of long serving manager Alan Curbishley, who went on to manage West Ham later on in the season, and somehow managed to keep them up. Although Charlton weren't on top form, they had had some great results so far, starting the season with 2 4-0 wins in a row over Cardiff and Scunthorpe, then a 1-0 win over Watford, last time out they beat Ipswich 3-1, but the time before they had their worst results with a 2-1 defeat to Colchester. It was bound to be a tough game, especially as our confidence took a huge knock against Preston last time out, however, the referee was an absolute joke in that game.

Injuries now. Just 1 casualty again, Andy Marshall was still out with a chest injury. Konstantopoulos deputised again.

Now to the team news. With no different injuries fro last game, I decided to stick with the 16 that lost to Preston. But Osbourne comes in for Doyle.

So we arrived at The Valley in London looking to make amends after a shock loss at the weekend to Preston. I knew we didn't deserve to lose, in fact we deserved to win about 3-0. But that result was ringing in our ears going into this game, so we really needed a cofidence booster. We got into the changing rooms. Got changed, and started our pre match chat, which was quite different from the previous few, today it was all about having faith in the players and telling them that if we were at the races we could certainly cause a shock here today. Then we went out, and you could cut the tension with an orange... I had a touchline ban, so I was banned from making tactical changes. The ban came from my comments about Keith Stroud in the last game. Even though I was right.

A good start, on 3 mins, we were knocking the ball around nicely, Osbourne and Hughes in the centre doing well and eventually Hughes put a great chipped ball over to Mifsud who shot but it was just saved, Thiago nearly got to the rebound, but it was just too far in front of him. On 7 mins, Charlton had a great chance. A good bit of play by Hill down the left, he put Jerome Thomas through but Andy Marshall made an outstanding save, and we hoofed it clear. On 12 mins, we took the lead in sensational style, a Phil Bardsley clearance falling at the feet of Mifsud on the halfway line, he dribbled and dribbled his way into the Charlton area, and smashed into the top corner. What a goal. A minute later, we nearly scored again, Osbourne won the ball well in midfield, passed to Mifsud who nodded the ball on to Thiago, he held the ball up well and put a great through ball to Mifsud who hitit first time but his shot went just wide. On 20 mins, we had another chance Martin put a fantastic ball in to Mifsud down the left, he crossed and Thiago's header went straight into the keeper. Unlucky. And on 25 mins, we scored again, Ward winning a superb header over Semedo and Mifsud brought it down in one movement and put Thiago through who finished like a young Thierry Henry. What a goal, and we definately deserved it. His first goal in Sky Blue. On 27 mins, we had yet another chance, the lads were just working so hard, Thiago won the ball straight from the kick off, gave it to Bardsley on the right and sprinted off towards goal, Bardsley chipped the ball into him, and he did an outrageous flick over the defence, ran onto it he did everything right but his shot went straight at the goalkeeper. Unlucky, superb from Thiago tahst exactly why I bought him. On 30 mins, we were in disbelief. 3-0!!! Tabb won the ball doggedly on the left, and whipped an amazing ball in, Hill tried to control it, but it bounced off his leg, staight to Thiago, who smashed home for his second. 3-0! On 35 mins, Charlton had their first chance, Semedo hit a thunderbolt from 25 yards, Marshall saved outstandingly, but the rebound fell to McLeod who fired home. 3-1. And on 41 mins, we were brought right back down to earth, Osbourne losing the ball stupidly in midfield, Semedo passed through to Andy Gray who made it 3-2. And that was the last noteable action of the half. Well, what a hafl and what a start. 3-0 up after half an hour, but then we conceded 2 sloppy goals, which we really didn't need. But I couldn't fault the work ethic of the boys in that half, I couldn't make a change as I was stuck on the sidelines.
On 46 mins, Charlton nearly equalised, a great ball in from Luke Varney which was superbly volleyed by McLeod, but Konstantopoulos made an unbelievable save once again. On 60 mins, my Assistant brought on Michael Doyle for Isaac Osbourne. On 66 mins, we nearly got a much needed goal, Doyle put Mifsud through superbly, but Mifsud's shot was well saved by Weaver. On 71 goals, I couldn't believe it. We had thrown away a 3-0 lead, Luke Varney scoring from a narrow angle. Unbelievable. On 77 mins, we had a glorious opportunity to retake the leade, Osbourne chipping to Mifsud, but Mifsud's volley somehow went over from 5 yards. A minute later we had another glorious chance, Mifsud shooting straight at the keeper twice from 4 yards. On 79 mins, my assistant made two changes, De Zeeuw and Best on for Fox and Thiago. Full time, and I couldn't believe that we had drawn this game. We went slack in a vital part of the game, we scored 3 goals and thought that was enough to win and that was our downfall today. I was bitterly disappointed with just 1 point today. But it was a good point away at one of the best sides in the division. But still.

A good point away at one of the best sides in the division, but you were 3-0 up after half an hour?! You could of won that easily.

Unlucky, Craig.

COVENTRY OFFER LITMANEN TRIAL

Coventry City have offered 36 year old Finland international Jari Litmanen a one week trial. Litmanen has been unattached since his contract expired at Swedish outfit Malmo FF in the Summer, and is in a desperate search to get a club before he callls time on his long and successful career. Litmanen has made 111 appearances for Finland and has scored 29 goals, and still makes himself available for selection and is the captain. The highlight of his career so far is his fantastic stint at Ajax, where he made 159 appearances and scored an amazing 91 goals. An amazing tally for a midfielder.

COVENTRY SIGN STANCU

Coventry City have made an amazing deal for in demand Bogdan Stancu. The Romanian U21 International has attaracted interest from many clubs around Europe, but has decided to come to Coventry as the move was right for him and at a bargain price of £700K too. Stancu will join Coventry officially when the transfer window re opens on 1st January 2008.

After a good result away at Charlton in an epic 3-3 draw, it was back on to the Carling Cup after a great win against Aston Villa in the previous round. We had another away tie, this time against another Premiership side, Wigan Athletic at their 25000 seater, JJB Stadium. It was quite a bit smaller than the Ricoh, but it'll do :p. Wigan got past Millwall in the last round and their league form is a bit erratic with losses against Sunderland, Tottenham and Chelsea but also they got a good 0-0 draw against Liverpool. But I hoped again for an upset, against what has to be said, weaker opposition than Villa.

Injuries now. The same casualty again, Andy Marshall was still out with a chest injury.

Now to the team news. Arjan De Zeeuw came into the side to face his former club, and Kevin Tornton returned in place of Stephen Hughes who dropped out of the side, and Isaac Osourne dropped to the bench, and Michael Doyle came into the XI.

So we arrived at the JJB Stadium ahead of this Carling Cup game against Wigan. We were all very relaxed, knowing that the pressure was on Wigan and not us today, and we knew we were good enough to cause an upset over Wigan today. We got into the dressing rooms, and I told the players some tactics early, as I was banned from the touchline and I told the lads, that as long as we stuck to a gameplan, I would have no complaints today.

A good start, in the first minute, we attacked through Lee Martin, he cut inside and passed to Thornton, he did a couple of dummies, and shot with his favoured left foot, but his shot went just wide. Well played. On 5 mins, Wigan scored with their first attack, the lads just didnt' seem t want to tackle, and Jason Koumas ran through and crossed to julius Agahowa who headed home. 1-0. The next chance came on 40 mins, Lee Martin weaving about on the left, apssign to Doyle who hit a long shot, but it was poor and went quite a way wide. And that was half time. And it was a very boring game so far, we hadn't shown any desire at all. And at half time, I rang my assistant cheekily and told hime to bring on Best on for Thiago and Osbourne on for Doyle.
On 56 mins, we had a great chance, great work by Martin again on the left, totally otuskilling Wigan's right back Song Chong-Goog and passing to Mifsud who should have scored but he wasted a great chance. A minute later we had another great chance, Osbourne winning the all fantastically in the midfield, passign to Martin who put Mifsud through again, but former Coventry goalkeeper Chris Kirkland saved well. On 58 mins, Mifsud wasted yet another glorious chance, Martin again putting the dangerman through but his finish was awful. Straight into the side netting. On 59 mins, we were nearly made to pay for our wasteful finishing. Koumas was clean through on goal after someslack defending, but Konstantopoulos turned it over fantastically. What a save. On 77 mins, Wigan scored. F*cking typical. Bardsley intercepted well, tried to clear but for some reason Osbourne headed back towards his own goal, and ended up gifting Marcus Bent a goal. Stupid idiot. My assistant brought Osbourne off for McKenzie. And on 80 mins, Wigan made it three. Agahowa again. 7 mins, later it was 4. What the hell were they doing. Agahowa hat trick. That wa sthe end, and we had literally chucked this game away. Suicide defendign and passing and finishing did it for us. Truly awful performance. And to make matters a LOT worse, Lee Martin fell awkwardly at the ned, and is awaiting diagnosis, but it is suspected strained ligaments in his knee.

MARTIN OUT FOR 2 MONTHS

Coventry City's promotion campaign has taken a dramatic turn of the worst. Their star midfielder on loan from Manchester United, Lee Martin, has strained knee ligaments and is expected to be out for 2 months. Tough said that the news is a massive blow, and thinks that their season will now be limited.

woah! Heavy defeat to Wigan and Martin injured! Double wammy. I just read all of your story so far and i'm really impressed with what you've done, carry on the good work :)

29/9/07

In our last game of September, we were back to the Championship after an awful result and all round bad day at Wigan, with Lee Martin out injured for 2 months. We faced Hull City at the Ricoh Arena. Hull were currently 9th in the league, and seem very happy with their progress after their promotion from League One. However they were on a bit of a bad run of late, without a win in three, but I suppose in two of thos games they were playing Watford and West Brom, the other was Colchester in which they only managed a draw. As for us, we were also very happy so far in 6th place and just in the play off places.

Injuries now. 3 players were out after the Wigan match, Andy Marshall still struggling with a chest injury, and Lee Martin was obviously out after a bad knee injury. Also Vice captain Michael Doyle was out, after his gashed head sustained in the Wigan game was a bit more serious than first though and is still slightly concussed.

Now to the team news. Doyle and Martin were out so Julian Gray replaced marti on the left and Stephen Hughes came back into the set up in place of Doyle and partnered Thornton in the centre of the midfield. Konstantopoulos kept his place in goal, as Marshall was stil out.

I arrived at the Ricoh Arena still thinking about the battering we took at the hands of Wigan in the cup. I knew the fans didn't care about that result, but after the Villa game, I really though we could have prolonged our cup run. However, the cup exit may benefit us in the long run, as less matches means less tired players, injuries and writing in my case :p. But the lads arrived and we had an in-depth chat about last game and what we needed to change to get the max out of this game today and to top off the month in style. And out we went to face the home supporters who were happy as ever.

A good start, and we nearly scored after just 17 seconds, Thiago kicking off to Mifsud who passed out wide to Bardsley, he chipped a ball to Tabb who controlled nicely and chipped over to Thiago who killed the ball with one fantastic touch and shot from 7 yards, but his shot was well saved. On 15 mins, we should have scored again, Thiago made a beautiful run down the centre, beating two men and putting Mifsud through, but his shot went over. A wasted opportunity. On 16 mins, we fell asleep again. I thought that de Zeeuw would sort the defence out but no, he falls asleep every week, and it costs us games, this time it was former Bolton striker Henrik Pedersen who pounced to make it 1-0 to Hull. On 34 mins, we had another chance, this timeTabb shot on the edge, but it was straight at the keeper. On 38 mins, Hull had a chance, De Zeeuw doing rubbish defending at teh back once again, and Hughes was all on his own in front of goal, and but luckily Dimi saved well. Half time, and it had been poor so far, we wasted too many good chances once again and Mifsud was the main culprit once again, so I brought him off for Leon McKenzie.
A slow start, on 64 mins, Hull had a free kick from 20 yards, Windass hit it but another brilliant save from Dimi prevented Hull making another goal. On 70 mins, we had anothe ropportunity, McKenzie was clean through, he tried to be clever and tried squaring it to Thiago, but his pass went straight out for a goal kick, and he just looked stupid. I brought Best and Cairo on for tabb and Thiago. On 83 mins, we thought we'd scored, Cairo heading home a Fox corner, but it was disallowed. What a f*cking surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Full time and we had been cheated out of the game once again. The referee disallowing a goal for absolutely nothing. I hate the referees on this f*cking game.
