Computer's Dead...

Yeah I suppose so but my brother told me that if I do contact a pro they will just rip me off and instead of that you could just get a new PC???

Also he reckons there might be a problem in the hard drive because its not making any sort of noise or anything but he doesnt know what to do either so just for the record who shall I contact???

Sorry if thats a stupid question but yh...

They won't rip you off, you haven't been able to fix your PC by now so a pro has to charge something if you expect him to do it quickly. Also its your hard-drive which seems faulty so, get a warranty replacement from wherever you bought your machine. Its easy to assume that there's lot of money in IT but it has to come from somewhere?

Yeah but if the cost ends as £100 or more there might not be a point because my dads PC isnt exactly state of the art and might aswell chip a few more 100's in and get one of the newer ones or a MaC (I heard they dont have as many problems)

Btw I doesnt Windows XP cost a fair bit??? plus getting a new hard drive might aswell do the above :(

Any help on whom to contact is welcome though...

Okay I have come to a conclusion I am going to give my PC to my dad and set it all up for him like put his filming studio stuff on it etc.

But I seeing as I will be PC-less I'm going to get a new one a really rubbish one like the one in the link below which is in the cleanouts section at Currey's.

It's £150. What I want to know is can I update the Graphics and RAM?

And what things really matter like will I get any drawbacks just to breif you guys I use my CPU for these things and these things only:

Windows Live Messenger
Xfire
Counter-Strike
FIFA Games
Cricket Games
Photoshop CS2

Will it be able to handle that once update?

Thanks.

Yeah I've looked at that a few times but I don't think I can do many of them.

I've decided to throw #52 out the findow too. Im just going to give my dad my computer and then my brother is going to get him a Mac and I'll have my CPU back.

Thanks for all the help, I'll still try do somthing about the other one until he comes back.

Yeah you can update the RAM and i think that motherboard would have a AGP slot(not PCI-Express considering that it's a bit old). So you will be able to use a AGP graphics card.

Doesn't say it has an AGP slot but only one PCI slot. I wouldn't buy it tbh.

I wouldn't recommend buying it either. I'm fairly sure you will need a new hard drive on your old PC, you should be able to get one fitted pretty cheaply.

I have had this error message before. For me it occured when i tried to set up raid 0 drives, i didnt do them correctly pre windows install or in the bios and had to reformat. It worked after that.

exactly, i am 90% sure too that u would have to buy a new drive for your PC to work.

even i used to get loads of them with RAID 0, then i read a review on real world benefits of RAID 0. they are nothing. wasted my money on buying two separate drives.

Yes, Raid 0 offers very little (if any) performance advantages for the home user. Add to that by using 2 Hard Drives instead of 1 you are basically doubling the probability of failure over a single drive. Unless you have some sort of bizzare server system setup gas where you need massive drives I wouldn't bother.
