Computers/Technology Quiz

Is the Godfather of gaming the chap behind the Zeldas and Donkey Kongs... he's got an Asian name, something like Miyamoro or something... can't for the life of me remember how to spell it.

To be fair there are more than one who have been labelled "the godfather of gaming" I think it often comes down to what games the individual considers to have been ground-breaking.

For me its still John Carmack, or it could be the guy who created playstation, Ken Kutaragi

Ok I've googled it, but won't poste here, it was a hard one. if someone doesn't get it then I'll post it with a little history on what excatly happened. Its not Norlan btw.

Kev, Stanford University Network is right. Great work!

As for my other question: "who is regarded as father of video games" I am certainly going to say it is Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari.

But this is a matter of some contention as Siddharth hints in his post above. Some people stress that William A. Higinbotham made a 'tennis' game similar to pong in 1958, 14 years before the Atari Pong was first released. This is factually correct. Similarly, a popular video game called "Spacewar" was created by Steve Russel at MIT in 1961.
However, keeping all this in mind, Nolan Bushnell of Atari is still credited as being the father of video games since Pong brought gaming into the mainstream as nothing before.

Most interestingly, even Pong was not created by Bushnell (I am not jesting!). It was developed by an Atari engineer by the name of Al Alcorn, with only a little help from the former.
These fact remains, however, that while video games existed long before Pong and Atari, it was Bushnell's efforts that for the most part resulted in the emergence of video gaming as a mass phenomenon. hence, for me and for many others, all things considered, Mr. Nolan Bushnell is the father of video gaming.

more questions:
Q. Bushnell originally didn't want to name his company "atari" but something else. What was the original name ? (hint: think roofing companies!) ?
Q. How did Windows XP came to named such ?
(Hint: are you sure whistler was XP's original codename ? :))
Q. An easy one: Name the founders of id software ?

ok here's mine,
Q. Who created Yahoo!
That's damn easy for an self respecting internet traveller: David Filo and Jerry Yang.

Some good questions there, Dam my knowledge in few areas is lacking, keep them firing, got to know them all.

Hey, you don't know the founders of id software ?! . I took that you were an id aficionado, however it seems you only idolise Carmack. (Although there's nothing wrong with that :)).

I think its Syzigy, because its the name of a roofing company, and I also remember reading once that these two men who planned on starting Atari(dont know the names) wanted to name it as Syzigy but they couldnt as it was already the name of a current company or something.I might be wrong though.

I guess my power of remembering must be fine then.No need for the reps, youve given me far too many already.

Capability Maturity Model Integration. Don't know about any levels though. Could you shed some light on that ?
