Cricket 24 - General Discussion

Just played an entire test match on Ashes Cricket and it is insane how much better that game is. The pitches actually have an impact, bowling is rewarding and the very obvious seams on Cricket 24s gameplay don't show there. They really just did two decent titles didn't they. DBC14 as a mission statement and then Ashes as the best version of what they've done. Everything else has been diminishing returns and the only reason I think of Cricket '19 fondly is the lockdown tournament...

And Pujara vs Cook, obvs.

I can confirm on C24, there is cloud formation happening again on English grounds, (but there is no explicit option to set it cloudy).

Just out of interest what do you find better between 19 and 24 apart from the fielding and pitches.

Seeing some discussion on bowling in the game. They need to completely rework the logic and mechanics of bowling. I actually liked the old mechanic of having the circle and lesser skilled bowlers having bigger circle making accuracy important and bowlers skills important .

Also watching the cricket today has made me think more about how the individual battles matter. If we're being honest, if you play as England on cricket 24, is there any real different to broad, Anderson, archer or woakes on the game? Do you ever chuck root on to hold an end while archer or stokes stamina charges up? There just absolutely no in-game decisions to make. You feel like you're playing a dice game where you're hoping to roll a wicket.

My idea to revamp the game would be to introduce traits or badges (similar to what NBA 2k has). I think it's still possible to create a simulation style game using "gimmicky" traits, you just have to keep them realistic.

Here's a couple I came up with, with the help of AI:

[/SPOILER
- Quick Single Artist: "Increases running speed and reduces risk of run-outs when taking quick singles." Imagine the dilemma of setting a field when bowling to a player with this badge.
-Death Over Dominator: Boosts scoring ability and reduces chance of dismissals in the final overs of an innings.
-Workhorse: Improves stamina and accuracy over long spells, reducing fatigue effects.
Maiden Over Maestro: Increases the likelihood of bowling maiden overs, building pressure.
-Wicket Taker: Boosts the chance of taking wickets in clusters after breaking a partnership.
- Pressure Builder: Increases the effectiveness of consecutive dot balls in forcing a false shot.
-Death Bowler: Enhances control and wicket-taking ability in the final overs of an innings.
-Variations Virtuoso: Improves the effectiveness and surprise element of different slower balls, cutters, etc.
-Unplayable Delivery: A small chance to bowl an almost unplayable delivery, regardless of batsman skill.
- Chirper: Boosts the morale of bowlers and impacts batsman concentration (more of a tactical badge).
-Captain's Inspiration: Boosts overall team performance when the player is captain.
-Clutch Performer: Significantly increases performance in match-defining moments (e.g., last over, close run chase).

I have created a trait system for my cricket management game (pro cricket manager 2025)and I think same can be used for c26 as this will add characters in to the game. Each player can have from 1 to 3 traits which can either be positive or negative.

Yeh these are great, exactly the kind of mechanic BA need to implement to get some kind of context to the matches we play

Had a fun test match mostly using waste's Australian and West Indies retro players (created a few extras myself) and got a few players out bowled from genuine play and misses which I haven't done for a long time if ever but boy is it incredibly frustrating when players dance down the wicket and miss the ball completely but they get back safely in the crease before the wicketkeeper even moves for the stumping, I had an instance with 6 potential stumpings off a tailender (one of the guys I created lol) and the keeper was slow on all of them it's very frustrating.

No way a stumping doesn't happen from this position let alone 6 different times, the keepers stay back too far off the spinners even when they are set to up.

Played last night for the first time in a month or so. Is it my tv or ps5, but is the lighting really bright and cartoony? Is there a way to change it back?

Another launch day has come with the usual Ross big talk with nothing to back it up.

Most pre-ordered game in Australia this year, huge budget and hundreds of new animations lead to the exact same release as Cricket 22, 24, AFL 23 & 26, Tiebreak (EA) and Rugby 25.

If Nacon gave any ounce of shit about the shovelware they publish, the studio would've been gone after Cricket 24. I feel for the League fans who've waited 8 years to be greeted with Big Ant's latest cash grab

Feel for the fans

You knew it was coming too. Ross blames a video of poor gameplay on it not being “the day one patch”.

He said the same thing about Rugby 25, but that’s a steaming pile of dog mess 6 months later.

I don’t really get the whole set up. No one can bang out 3 games in 6 months or a year. It’s impossible.

BA was all about attention to detail. Now it’s about churning out whatever they can to maybe even stay a float.

I still struggle to blame them because the shift since NACON is so so big.

It doesn’t help that Ross does seem to talk as if he’s never seen the actual games. Or is constantly in denial.

His tweets since RL26 have launched say a lot. He's finally owning up to what has become the norm. Maybe he's had something from the higher ups, or maybe this is the passion project he's finally accepting isn't good enough.

Either way, he should count himself fortunate so many people have the level of blind faith they have in the studio. He'd go a long way if he went back to the open dialogue from the pre-nacon days.

Anyone have any good sliders or guide to using the sliders for tests? I changed the pitch settings from medium to hard for the third FWT test in my tour and got smacked around by Lara and Adrian Griffith of all people so at least the Windies are scoring runs but it would be good to fine tune it.
