So, this is a summary of my skill system. The actual thing, for batting and bowling at least, is more complex and multi-layered incorporating things like statistics, country of origin etc. Fielding is fairly straightforward as it's a bit more based on subjective things and there's less easily defineable stats for it.

There's no guarantee following these will work, my system is one I started on Cricket 19 (I think) and have iterated and updated to match the subsequent editions. There used to be perks, then proficiencies and perks, then only proficiencies. As I always say, I mostly aim for balance rather than a perfect set of numbers.

Fielding skills is a chart and just selecting what's the best 'Main role' for a player and then a ranking (how good they are). I might mix and match certain skills and proficiencies, it's primarily a guide for consistency rather than a rigid set of skills. Athletic WK would be someone who might also be an outfielder in certain circumstances, Gloveman would be someone who, as a secondary position would be around the bat.

Batting is more complex in that it will output a mentality, skills points and proficiencies based on multiple inputs. For mentalities I'll occasionally bump a player up a level, usually tailenders, as they can often have low strike rates despite them being known as a bit of a slogger. Bowling does just the skill points and proficiencies.

Simplyfying it, as best I can:

1. Skill points for batting and bowling
2. How to allocate those skill points
3. Batting mentality
4. Proficiency allocation
5. Bowling mentalities

1. The number of skill points to give a player will vary, but players of equal level (within my system) will get the same numbers. The super simplified ratings has eleven 'levels' but there's sub levels within that (like another 50) to give greater variety. Sachin Tendulkar is the highest rated with 1039 skill points. Lowest of my retro players is Nick Dyer' who has 198.
2. The allocation is just a suggestion based on the mentality. So two players with the same rating but different mentalities will have different strengths. Although when making the player I'll swap them or nudge one skill up and and one down. I try to keep run speed and power as a minimum 37, max of around 81.
3. This is based on strike rates, so it takes into account an average of different formats then gives a mentality. It's a bit weighted towards modern players, although I find the retro ones might have a greater spread of Conservative and Precise. These are the levels, there's more automated stuff going on to get the actual mentality but this the ranges that inform it. I'd love to do something more with boundary or dot ball percentages but that'd be a big change and may not be worthwhile.
4. The number of proficiencies is linked to amount of skill points a player has (you can see from the fielding chart how that's linked). It's also limited by the role of a player. So, an all rounder might have the same skill points for batting as a batter but they would not have the same amount of proficiencies for batting (head canon for this is an all rounder wouldn't be able to train as much on one skill). Actually allocating proficiencies in the game can be tricky because it doesn't seem to be working, unless it's been patched. So, you have to change a players role to Wicket Keeper, apply the proficiencies, and then change them back. What proficiencies to allocate to? If I know a bit about the player I'll try and spread them out appropriately. If I don't I try and spread them evenly or maybe appropriately based on where they're from (e.g. might elevate the vs spinners for a subcontinent player). For bowlers, I generally avoid adding too many to the bowling speed. Shoaib Akhtar has 3 stars. If it's a medium-fast bowler I'll leave them at 1 star.
5. For bowling mentalities I'd see the list I provided or look at those retro creations for a rough guide of what to use. It's not automated but by finding the best fit.

What I've been doing is attempting to match players I want to re-skill to what I believe is the closest to whatever retro player you have shared and just copy the stats over.

One thing I find is that I can't change the proficiency points of players so I have a case of a downloaded Mark Ramprakash being 5 star for all bowling and fielding proficiencies which is a bit annoying.

I had re-skilled a Michael Slater on my own before you made this post using your lower skills as a base and at 969 batting skill points I got him between a good and star international player which I think is pretty fair, I'm going to go through and re-skill all other players using your guide.

With Nick Dyer being the worst rated retro player does that mean we are getting a Scotland team along the line? (I assume he's Scottish in the 99 world cup and not Zimbabwean)

If you change the role of Mark Ramprakash (to wicket keeper) you should be able to change his proficiencies. Then can change back to batter.

Thanks, changing to a wicketkeeper allowed me to reduce the bowling and changing to a bowler reduced the fielding proficiencies.
