Nothing gets by pedants at PC... be it screenshots with floating heads, a discussion on release date or geometry 101 :p

hey ross!! i have some questions.. u would be kind if u answer these please!

1. will there be super substitute feature??
2.while diving near the boundary rope and catching a ball , will the fielder be able to throw the ball at once fearing that he may touch the rope and be a cause for a six.
3. will there be cut scenes for switching substitute player?
4. will there be dew factor only in sub continent or also in other continents?
5. will there be cut scenes for showing the spectators ?

What exactly is a "super substitute" feature? Don't think I've heard about it.

Super subs were something tried at least in Australian domestic cricket several years back where the captain got to swap out the 12th man for one of the main XI once in the match.

It never really worked in practice because teams had to pick the 12 players before the toss, so you would only get the benefit a quarter of the time, when you bat/bowl first with a bowler/batsman as your sub respectively.

Good it didn't catch on as it changes the fundamentals of the game. Cricket is supposed to be 11 vs 11, and not 11 vs 12 or 12 vs 12. It's ok for more than 11 players to play in a practice match, but it shouldn't be allowed in FC or intl games.

Edit: I am assuming this feature was introduced in Aus domestic cricket when they were experimenting with the split innings odis with 50 overs odi inning split in 2 innings of 25 overs each.

My memory of it was in plain 50 over matches around 2004. I think it stayed around longer than it otherwise would simply because it almost never happened.

Out of interest, how do you come to the conclusion that it was not "successful"? Based on what parameters? :)

If it was successful, rule would have been existed even now :) . Reason I can think of for not being successful is

It tend to favour the team that won the toss.
Team need to name their super sub even before the toss.
Sometimes it would be like 11vs12.

First super sub was Vikram Solanki

Much like "powerplays" the "super sub" was never explored past a generic-plan use by most teams when it was trialed. It had legs as a concept, but favored the team that won the toss and generally only consisted of both teams picking an exceptionally good fielder... I envisaged a scenario whereby you would name a squad of 13 players, Field 11 and nominate one of your two remaining players as a "Super-Sub" at some point during the match. That way, it gave teams a wild card for batting, or bowling (or in the field) and could keep the opposition team guessing when (or if) you would use it.

well even if implemented properly it would upset the dynamics of a team, but on the other side you'll have specialist bowlers all the time bowling at long batting line ups.better contest between bat and ball.something which cricket needs.in the ninetees you would have quality bowling with attacking fields even in the middle overs.now a days a good batsman reaches 20,and the opposition is virtually resigned to the fact that he'll get a hundred.
