Good morning and welcome to the 1st Npower test match between England and Sri Lanka here at Headingley.

England are ranked 3rd in the test rankings and Sri Lanka just 2 points behind them in 4th so this will be a really close contest.
Sri Lanka haven't played a test match since November where they swept up the West Indies at home,3-0.

Lets join Ian Botham for his analysis of the pitch.

"Thanks David.Well this is pitch is quite damp.Theres been alot of rain so the ball wont come on to the bat,it will be very frustrating for the batsmen and the outfield is very slow so dont expect alot of boundries today. If the bowlers can get it in the right areas it will move about and will pick up early wickets."

So the toss has been completed and England have won the toss and will bowl.

So lets join the game for the 1st ball of the series.

England on top at lunch!

England rip through the opening batsmen and keep Sri Lanka on the backfoot as they are forced to bat at just 1.3 rpo.Sri Lanka finished on 36-3 with just 3 boundries. Both opening bowlers took the wickets with Hoggard getting both M.Atapattu and M.Jayawardene and A.Caddick S.Jayasuriya.This leaves K.Sangakarra whos on 6,and S.De Silva on 22 at the crease.

Join later today for the Afternoon session and the evening session.

Goodbye

Welcome back to headingley for the afternoon session and the evening session from Day 1 of the 1st test match between England and Sri Lanka.

Lets get to the action.

England excelent as confused Sri Lanka bowled out for 66!

England continued their dominance of the day as they bowl out Sri Lanka for 66.Sri Lanka really did look confused as they went at less than a run per over. The afternoon started poorly when S.De Silva, looking good for a fightback, lost his wicket almost straight away when he was caught trying to up the run-rate.Giles bowled two superb deliveries to get rid of K.Sangakarra and H.Tillakaratne.Just one more boundry was added by M.Muralitheran bringing the total up to 4.England had 9 overs to bat at the end of the day,and despite some movement from Vaas, they were untroubled with M.Trescothick scoring 2 boundries and England ended the day 26-0.

Tune in soon for the 2nd day of this test match. It wont be tomorrow...its twenty20 finals day!!!

Goodbye

Hello and welcome to headingley for Day 2 of the 1st test match between England and Sri Lanka.

Despite it being finals day i managed to squeez in the morning session before the games started:cool:.Lets see what happened.

England collapse but still lead by 73

Sri Lanka win this session by putting on a fight back leaving England on 139-7 at lunch.Just one more run was added to the overnight total when Trescothick lost his wicket.England were going well at 57-1,but a collapse saw them loose 6 wickets for 50 runs.Top scorer so far in the game is M.Vaughan who made 37 before being bowled by Vaas.J.Foster on 11 and D.Cork on 16 are at the crease. All 5 bowlers used by Sri Lanka took wickets with S.Jayasuriya the pick of them taking 2-27 off 7.

Come back soon for the afternoon session.

Goodbye

Welcome back to headingley for the afternoon and evening sessions from the 1st test match between England and Sri Lanka.

England mediocre,Sri Lanka utter rubbish!

England wrap up the 1st test match in 2 days by bowling out Sri Lanka for 29,the second lowest total in test cricket history. The top score in the innings was 7,with 4 runouts in the innings.A.Caddick was the pick of the England bowlers taking 3-13.England were bolwed out for just 174 but England came back to win by an innings and 86 runs.

I have been playing on normal because it almost impossible to bat on hard but it looks like im going to have to up the level so it will proberly be a reverse result in the 2nd test.

Join us soon.

Goodbye

Hello and welcome to Lords for the 2nd test between England and Sri Lanka, now on a harder level.England beat Sri Lanka in the 1st test by an innings and 86 runs so they only need to draw to avoid defeat in the series, but a win here will seal it for them. Its a beautiful spring day here so we are in for a great 5 days cricket.Lets join Ian Botham for his pitch report.

"Thanks David. This is a pretty good pitch. Its flat and theres not alot of grass. But at the start of the innings the ball will move about a bit so if the openers can get through the first ten overs, there will be a mountain of runs.I would bat first on this pitch."

Thanks Ian.The toss has been made and Sri Lanka won it and have chosen to bat first.Lets see what happened in the first 2 sessions of the day.

Sri Lanka improving but England too good!

England will be pleased with the way the morning and afternoon has gone with Sri Lanka 83-7 after 55 overs.Sri Lanka didnt start well with them struggling at 8-2 and going at less than a run an over. But Atapattu put up some resistance hitting 44 with 8 fours before being caught. That set up abit of a collapse with Sri Lanka loosing 5 wickets for 30 runs with Cork the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 wickets for 2 runs off 7 overs so far.England are bowling well but when it comes to batting they might let themselves down with it now on hard difficulty:p:D.

Come back later for the evening session

Goodbye!

Welcome back to Lords for the evening session on day 1 of the 2nd test between England and Sri Lanka.England were looking like bowling Sri Lanka out in less then one day,but nothing is ever certain.Lets see what happened.

Brave Sri Lanka survive the day!

Sri Lanka managed to bat the whole day but didnt get into 3 figures, ending on 99-9 after 82 overs.Nothing really happened.England should have ended the day with their 2 openers out there but some poor bowling saw them just get the 2 wickets of D.Fernando edged off the bowling of Hoggard and Zoyza, bowled by Butcher:eek:.So England will start day 2 with just the one wicket required before they bat,but we are still anxious as to whether England will even reach that target as the batting will be tricky;).

See you tomorrow for what will be a fasinating day of cricket.

Goodbye!

England will be dissapointed not to be batting at the end of the day

No highlights...nothing really happened.

Hello and welcome back for the morning session and afternoon session on the 2nd day of the 2nd Npower test.Lets see what happened.

England going quite nicely!

England end the afternoon well getting 125-5.They started well getting 64 before the 1st wicket fell. They were soon 81-2 and they began loosing wickets at regular intervals before they managed to get to their total at the end of the session.Still no milestone with Vaughan getting 36,Trescothick 34,Butcher 22 and Hussain on 22*.Both opening bowler Vaas and Zoyza got 2 wickets each.

Come back later for the evening session.

Goodbye!

Hello and welcome back for the evening session on day 2 of this Npower test.England looked like securing a big total, lets see what happened.

England collapse once again!

Once again England fail to post a good score as Sri Lanka look to fight back.England looked to be going along nicely but a collapse saw them loose the final 5 wickets for 31 runs.Yet again no milestone,Hussain fell 4 short of it.Sri Lanka are going much better, ending on 18-0 off 6 overs.

Join us later for what will be a fascinating last couple of days.

Goodbye

Hello and welcome back for Day 3 of this 2nd Npower test match. We Arrived here under a cloud when we were told that ex South African cricketer Hansie Cronje was killed in helicopter accident yesterday.Despite everything he was involved in,it still was a sad loss to cricket. As a sign of respect,a minute silence was held before the start of play.Anyway, lets see what happened in the days play.

England look to have this rapped up!

England bowled Sri Lanka out for a poor total again and they need only 60 more runs to get from 2 days.Sri Lanka were going well at 70-2 but they lost their last 8 wickets for 63 runs.Top score was Jayawardene with 32 but the England bolwers were just too good with Hoggard taking 5-21.England has 1 over to bat at the end with Trescothick getting a boundry off the 1st ball and England ended on 4-0.

Come back soon for what should be the last day of this match.

Goodbye

Jayawardene was looking good
