Michael Vaughan will make his return to International cricket in the third Ashes test against Australia.

The home side are 2-0 up in the series and a win away from reclaiming the Ashes urn they lost in 2005.

Current captain Andrew Flintoff will miss the third test due to a shoulder injury he suffered in training. And the England and Wales Cricket Board have named the returning Michael Vaughan as captain for the remaining three test matches. Andrew Strauss will continue as vice-captain.

Speaking to the press, Vaughan had this to say:
I am looking forward to playing for and captaining England again. Its been a rather long and at times frustating wait but I am glad that its all over now and I can do what I like doing best - playing cricket.
On his team's chances-
We have a difficult task, no doubt, but we will do all we can to hold on to the Ashes. We have a good blend of youth and experience, and all of us are eager to perform well for England.
On Flintoff's absence-
Its a big blow for us because he offers us an option with both bat and ball. Besides he is a true matchwinner and played a crucial role in the 2005 Ashes win. But his absence also allows some of the other players to try and impress the selectors.

Love the scenario, and i can just see Vaughan gettin' a big'un! Flintoff is a key loss though as it will weaken the seam attack.

Cook hits century in warm-up draw

_42335553_cooky203.jpg

Alastair Cook acknowledges his first century in Australia

Alastair Cook hit a fluent 106, sharing 183 with Andrew Strauss as England enjoyed useful Test preparation in the drawn tour game with Western Australia.

Strauss struck 12 fours in his 88, but Geraint Jones edged to slip first ball.

Cook reached 100 from 158 balls, Ed Joyce added 73 and Chris Read a breezy 59 with two sixes as England compiled 356-5, Michael Vaughan not batting.

Essex left-hander Cook has scored 90 runs in his four Ashes knocks, with a best of 43 in the second innings at Brisbane.

The opening pair have got England away to steady starts in the Test matches but have not been able to put a big partnership together, 32 their best in four attempts.

Michael Vaughan who will captain the England side for the remaining three test matches was part of the 12-man squad, but only did some fielding in the match.

Stats:

Perth - Day 2 of 2

Western Australia (1st Innings) 322-8
L Pomersbach 101*(139)
C Rogers 66(137)

Michael Vaughan? Isn't he that bloke that got out for a duck playing a Western Warriors 2nd XI?

Also he is the same who dominated Aussies in Aussies in last Ashes ;)
England looked good in the warm up match but real test comes against Aussies!

He didnt really dominate the Aussies in 2005 he only did once making 166 but besides that he was no real threat ;)

Good story mate nice to see you going along with whats happening in real life.

I think he was talking about the Ashes series before that mate here in Australia when Vaughan averaged in the 50's. Of course that means nothing these days with the Yorkshireman clearly over the hill as far as international cricket goes.
