1st day session 3

Sri Lanka's start to the final session of the day got off on the wrong foot, vaughan getting an edge on lukarachi's bat and butcher taking his third catch of the day,200 was starting to look out of reach. Sri lanka's only hope seemed to be thorugh Jayawardene who was going along quite nicely, with a healthy strike rate. He quickly hit both spinners out of the attack smashing batty for 14 off one over. He deservadly brought up his 50 off 96 balls. As Sri Lanka comfortably passed 200 the next target appeared to be around 230 however with Jayawardene losing his wicket short of his century the inevitable happend and it was a batting collapse. Sri Lanka failed o add any more runs after Jayawardene departed. Batty and Vaughan outsmarting the tailenders, with increased spin and flight. Vaas's wicket certinly was rather odd, trying to play a controlled pull of the back foot, resulted in the ball going straight up in the air and chris read got himself underneath it to take a simple catch. Sri Lanka are all out for 212 off 71 overs. England now have a short spell to face before the end of the days play.

day 1 session 3. 7 overs remaining before the end of play

England were looking to just see out the day without losing any wickets, trescothick looks in good nick, he managed to score one boundry a nice square cut off the back foot. Vaughan looked out of form and edged one throught the slips attempting a square cut that was perhaps a little high. The following over he was on a cover drive to early to a Nissanka slower ball and was caught at cover. England finish the 1st day on 18/1 after 7 overs.

Day 2 Session 1

It was Mark Butcher who was opening the second day and he had luck on his side as his first boundry came off an outside edge, trying to play a backfoot drive diagonaly down past the bowlers left hand side, it caught and edge and flew through the slip cordon. After that he regained composure and played some lovely back foot cover drives and leg glances. Trescothick at the other end was struggling to time the ball and at one poin had a strike rate of 10 runs per 100 balls. Just as things were on the up for England, and approaching 50 runs butcher was out stumped, his team definatly needed more from him as he looked in good form. Hussain arrived at the crease, and also appeared to be in good nick. His first shot was a six straight down the ground, he was playing the spinners very well. Trescothick eventually came into form at the other end hitting 2 fours in one over, and even smashing three 6's all down the ground to different areas. England built well over a fifty partnership and looked to be cruisin as lunch approached. However in this game a wicket has always fallen before the break and the same happend here, with just three deliverys till the brake, Dharasena got revenge and trapped Hussain on the crease, LBW. It was a close decision that could have gone either way, it looked to be missing leg stump but the huge amounts of turn being created by the spinners possibly persuaded the umpire. So at lunch England are 114/3 off 34 overs. Thorpe has just arrived at the crease and will be looking to hang around abit, and Trescothick will be looking for another half century.

Day 2 session 2

England came out positive in the next spell however the pitch was causing the batsmen no end of problems, slow and with some un-even bounce and pace timing shot was proving hard. Trescothick brought up his fifty eventually, but the slow pitch cost him his wicket as he was on a sweep way to early. Thorpe was enjoying a rich vein of form despite his first two boundrys coming off edges through the slip cordon. Flintoff was pinned down and frustration saw him get stumped by some excellent work through the wicket keeper. Read arrived and built a solid partnership with thorpe, they went on to secure a vital 50 run partnership lower down the order. However thorpe was stopped just short of his 50 with an excellent catch at cover. Batty came in with england in trouble but the talented off spinner didnt look comfortable against his own type of bowling and was caught off a bat pad at short leg. Read quickly followed with england just a few runs short of Sri Lanka's total. So the tail is exposed and they managed to hang on untill tea, however they looked very uncertain against the spin. Dharasena has bowled exceptionaly and has 5 wickets already. England will be hoping to get level with Sri Lanka and it looks as though they will be back in the filed before the end of the day.

day 2 session 3

Aspirited fight from the tail saw england reach 223 all out after 68 overs. A few nicks saw each of the tailenders bag a boundry, even a few reverse sweeps were played, some picked up singles, most resulted in the final wickets. So sri Lanka willl have an hour and a half of play before the end of the second day.

Day 2 Session 3

England seamers found good length but time and time again the ball was nicked off the edge but never went to hand, the first six boundrys were all off edges, it seemed that where ever england placed a fielder the ball went somewhere else. Things didnt get any better for the spinners, especially Batty who was slammed around the ground by jaysuiriya. Sri Lanka are flying at the moment, and they will be looking to bat for all of the third day to amass a big score. England are searching for the initial breakthrough but face a long hard day in the field tommorow. :(

I think the edges are a bit too often now with the use of the AI patches. But they still make the game a whole lot better.

However you would expect high scores on subcontinental pitches which are so batting friendly. (except dumbulla in sri lanka)

yeah i know, but i am using tutsi patch 4.1 and im finding batting and bowling harder, its not looking good at the moment with sri lanka storming ahead. In regard to edges there is too many, i find the cpu dont gewt many but when im batting edges were flying around all over the place, still is fun.

Day 3 Session 1

With Sri Lanka totally in control England badly needed a breakthrough, and it was not immediatly forthcoming. The seamers looked very ineffective and Sri Lanka quickly obtained their 100 partnership from both openers. Jaysuriays good form continued, along with his modest strike rate. Like the first innings though, he fel short of his century eventually being caught at cover, anderson was the bowler. With the first wicket down and englands spirits clearly lifted flintoff and hoggard were brought in for a short spell before the spinners would have a go. Whilst hoggy wasnt able to produce any magic flintoff kept bowling wide of off stump in the hope to tempt attapatu in to an ambitious drive, he was but was scoring runs from it. A slower ball nearer the stumps and attapatu couldnt resist the straight drive, he didnt catch it right, and it was taken by the fielder at mid on. So with Sri Lanka now at 117/2, and england right back in the match with two fresh batsmen to bowl at, Batty & and a few overs later, Vaughan were brought back in to the attack. Batty's impact was instant, perhaps the best ball of the series dismissed jayawardene. It pitched wide and outside leg stump, as jayawardene went to leave it, it nipped back in and clipped leg stump, a excellent wicket and batty is definatly stakeing his claim for a more regular place in the team. With england now in control and both spinners operating Sri Lanka were forced to block and play defensive, every fielder was brought in to surrond the batsmen. Two more wickets followed, both for batty and without adding much to the sri lankian total, both bat pad catches off the superb bowling of batty. England are in a great position now and with the tail nearly exposed, this match could be over by the end of day 4. At lunch Sri Lanka are 138/5 after 46 overs
