I have 56K Modem and it gives me from 38.0 Kbps to 52.0 Kbps.

5 Kbps is too slow for me.

Infact, my windows downloader downloads at 4.5 kbps

Two of my friends have tried Linux with DownloadX. They are also able to downlaod at above 20 kbps. They use a different ISP ( Satyam Online ) to mine ( HCL Infinet )

Andrew, what's the difference between KBps and kbps?

My connection gives 6k sometimes evn 8k.And that too its a dial up connection(Satyam Online)!!!.

DownloadX works only with Linux.

Well, if you need Linux distros, get this months Digit Magazine. There are four Distros available for free, and a lot of software. The magazine costs justs 100 bucks, but comes with a DVD for Linux and two more CDs for games and software.

And, make sure your modem chipset is supported by that Particular distro.
