RACING F1 2011 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

Can't wait. This game looks so awesome. Graphics are great, new features are what is needed. Would like to have manual pit stops but it doesn't look like that will be implemented at all and yeah, I'd love it if the AI changes teams as well but that won't happen.

treva, why can't they anyway. What's licensing got to do with it?

Probably more to do with the contracts the drivers sign. Maybe it states that they can only be affiliated with their respective teams and that might extend to video games. Just a wild guess.

If it is, it's rather silly. I would like to have the opportunity to have drivers change teams. That would be rather cool.

It's exactly that. The drivers and teams have to be the same as in real life. It's stupid and annoying, but that's the way it is.

I tried the last F1 game. Its pretty easy to pick up if you play with assists on. With all the assists off its a nightmare to drive for me. I just do a donut at every turn :p I use a Xbox 360 Controller. IMO one of the best product of microsoft. I've used it for last 3 years and the bastard is still working without a problem.(I'm not a casual gamer, i play regularly;))

There are two new racing sims on the market. Dirt 3 and NFS Shift 2. I need a opinion guys. Which one is better. I gonna buy one of them in next week. From what i heard, Dirt 3 has nice rally atmosphere but it is repetitive and Shift 2 got better graphics and speed feel. Is this correct :spy

Well I don't have either :p

Yeah, I have a few of the assists on, to help me not spin out as much. I attack corners a bit too much, which the new game will fix and make it not so easy to spin out when you're driving aggressively.

Dirt 3 is all about rallying. If you like rallying you'll like Dirt 3. I wouldn't say it's repetitive since there are quite a few things to do. Apart from the rallying side of it, you have Gymkhana which is sort of like an obstacle course for cars, where you have to do 360 degree turns, sharp 180s, figures of 8 around cones or drifting around a pillar without hitting it, all whilst trying to beat the clock. The AI is very good imo. They've struck a nice balance, so it's not too easy but not hard you get frustrated.

Dirt 3 requires good car control. When you do a rally, sometimes you go from tarmac, which offers you good grip, to loose gravel and sometimes, that grip disappears just like that and your car starts to lose traction so you have get it back quickly or else you'll crash.

Choice of cars is decent albeit limited mostly to manufacturers who have featured in rallying of some sort. So you'll see Mitsubishi, Subaru, Ford, Lancia, Citroen etc.

NFS Shift 2 is in between a simulator (GT5, Forza) and an arcade (NFS Hot Pursuit) style of driving. If you've played NFS Shift, it's like that but a little bit better. For some reason I don't like the controls and car handling in NFS Shift/Shift 2. It almost feels a bit unresponsive, as though the car you're driving as no weight to it. That said, it's not as bad as in Shift. Also the assists can get a little intrusive at times. For example, the assist system may interfere when you're trying to break late into a corner attempting a pass. So it'll tap the break for you. This can cause you to lose control for a second and in this game, one second is all it takes for you to lose control and stuff up your race.

AI can be a bit dense. Sometimes when I try to master a corner and break to go into it, the car behind will plow into me at full speed ruining everything.

However, you have a massive choice of cars. The range is much better than Dirt 3. You have the majority of the exotic manufacturers (eg, Aston Martin, Porsche, Lamborghini) and the mainstream manufacturers.

Check out game reviews to help you make up your mind. For me, I prefer NFS Shift 2 because of the large selection of cars and because I'm not a huge fan of rallying.

Have you tried it with a wheel? Entirely different experience mate. :)

New interview:

Ok, that's good. Surprised that the DRS is allowed anywhere along the track but I'll probably just use it for the pit straight and any other long straights around the track. But yeah, just can't wait.

She's actually a very bubbly and friendly kind of girl if you watch the vid, but when she's just listening as in that shot, she looks as though she wants to smack him one!

Good on them for providing objectives for different ability/experience levels online - it makes it more life like, as even in real F1 it isn't just about winning for everyone. ;)

At least she demonstrated some passion for F1 and the game in particular. In another interview, this guy just kept saying 'yeah...cool, cool, cool' to every answer! He didn't seem as though he wanted to be there, whereas she did.

Received my copy of Shift 2. Yeah i thought about giving EA another chance :p So far I'm impressed with the presentation and graphics. Most importatnly optimization. It runs smoothly on my 3 year old set up smoothly ( Which coincidently exactly same as yours Steve:eek:). I haven't started playing it yet, waiting for my Controller to arrive. FFS it was shipped on 17th. Should have been here earlier. :facepalm

Looks like NFS franchise is back in business big time.
Can't wait for this one to hit the shelves

There you go - a relatively new game running beautifully on 'our' three year old machine - more proof that you don't have to upgrade every six months. :)

Where did you order your controller from?
