Do star players refuse to renegotiate new contracts if you're in Division 2?
Relax - I really don't think so! FM has that, and it's realistic in football of course. But whether or not real-life county cricket has that, I very much doubt that ICC has. Although admittedly players do sometimes ask for more (and sometimes considerably less) than you would expect.

2013 season review

County Championship

Finished 8th in the County Championship Division 1 which ends a 3 year stint in the top flight. In the end, I drew too many games as my loses were few and far between but so were my wins. Hoping to bounce back at the first time of asking. Moeen Ali completely tore the division apart last year scoring a huge 2080 runs in the season and Richard Jones took 84 wickets in the season.

Division 1 winners: Yorkshire
Division 1 relegated: Worcestershire, Somerset

Division 2 winners: Lancashire
Division 2 promoted: Durham

Challenge Trophy

Finished 5th in Group A in this competition. I don't mind not doing too well in this competition as for me it has no real need to exist. I dislike it as a tournament in real life also. I used it as a chance to rest my key players and give the youth a go.

Winners: Yorkshire

20 Over Cup

Finished bottom of the North group. Really disappointed with that as after half the games, I was in with a great chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals. Next year I will focus on this competition, as it is a real lottery as to who wins it.

Winners: Warwickshire

Overall it was a fairly dire season. I did well in the 4 day format, but just couldn't sneak a win out of the drawing situations. I released a few players including: Chris Russell, Shaaiq Choudrey and James Cameron and managed to bring in: Moin Ashraf, Dan Hales (YTHS), David Sales and George Wainwright (YTHS).

My squad for the 2014 season is:

Batsmen

Moeen Ali
Alexi Kervezee
Jack Manuel
Daryl Mitchell
Matthew Pardoe
Neil Pinner
Richard Sutherland
David Sales
George Wainwright

Wicket Keepers

Ben Cox
Harry Wales

All-Rounders

Graham Napier
Dwayne Bravo (20 over only)
Gareth Andrew

Bowlers

Richard Jones
Dean Andrews
Moin Ashraf
Dale Steyn (Overseas, full season)
Dan Hales

Reckon that squad should get me back into the 1st division in the County Championship. Surprised that Dale Steyn was available on a full season contract. Was expecting to have to sign a reserve overseas.

Cannot believe it. Missed out on my first ever appearance in the 20 over cup quarter-finals by virtue of having a worse net run rate than Lancashire :( Completely gutted.

Edit: Now it really is all going pear-shaped. I was top of all competitions: now i've missed out in twenty20, seemingly missed out in the county championship, starting to miss out in the challenge trophy and now Dale Steyn has been selected by South Africa, after being injured twice in one season. I've had countless rain delays that have ruined my push for promotion :( it really is going all against me.

ICC2006 : Playing as Surrey

2051 season :D

So much for Northants Bold declaration. :lol :lol On Day 4, even I was going through the bowling formalities thinking match was headed for a draw....when all of a sudden...just 2 overs after lunch, Northants gave a bold declaration :p setting my team a target of 286 in about 58 overs.

Losing an early wicket, my score went up to 104/1 at tea. Then with 9 wkts in hand decided to go for the target....( probably close shop if something went wrong :p )..but my batsmen responded in great fashion as I sneaked home with 8 balls to spare. The ploy of promoting my one-day specialist allrounder W.Smith from No. 6 to No. 3 worked immensely. My skipper P.Steed contributed a breezy 70 off 58 balls.

On a 4th day track which assisted spinners, probably, a champion spinner in their team would have been a crucial aspect but instead they were bowling with some 5 fast bowlers :D with no assistance from the surface.

Rolled over the Netherlands for 41 in 13 overs in a Challenge Trophy game earlier :P Dale Steyn came back from a poor tour with SA (I kept an eye on how he was doing) and took a 7-for, with Dean Andrews taking the other 3. Finished 4th in Group A, not that bad. And I drew with Kent in the County Championship, meaning I HAVE to beat Somerset if I want to keep my chances of promotion alive. I've already highlighted what I need to do to improve my team for next year, and thats 2 new pace bowlers and a spinner. Moin Ashraf has been a real disappointment for me, simply hasn't taken enough wickets.

Edit: Finished the season. Ended up 4th in the Challenge Trophy, 5th in the 20 over cup and somehow slipped to 6th in the County Championship. Took the England job at the end of the season and drew the Ashes series with Australia (I retained it as I won the previous series). Decided to give Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali their chances, and Mitchell didn't disappoint. Opened the batting with Cook and averaged well over 50.0 in that series. Ali was disappointing in the world 20 over cup and hasn't featured in the tour of Australia yet. Crashed out of the world 20 over cup in the super eight stages.

Was about to throw in the towel of International captaincy as I then lost the preceding Twenty20I series 2-0 to Australia to give India the spot of No.1 in the world as T20I and England slipped down to 2nd. But then, in the 5 match ODI series, I have beaten Australia 3-0 after 3 games, and I still have the chance to whitewash them! I need to retain Test status as no.1 and try and get/re-get no.1 status in ODI and T20I.

Beaten Australia 4-1 in the ODI series, got thumped in the final ODI. Moeen Ali scored an impressive 100 in the 4th ODI. It is very hard to select an England squad without being too biased towards my Worcestershire players. Ben Cox has got the best batting average out of all the English wicket-keepers yet I still feel like i'm being biased if I were to pick him! Anyway, up to 2nd in the ODI team ranking now. 2015 season has started with Worcestershire and I started with a draw against Glamorgan at home. Took 9 points away from that match.

Into my 2014 season as Worcs and to be quite honest, it's an utter car crash. I'm realing near the bottom in the County Championship Div 2 and I am not doing too well in the Challenge Trophy either. Only wins of the season so far have come against a UCCE squad and Essex in the Challenge Trophy. In all honesty, I can't wait till the Bangladesh series with England. This domestic seasons is almost a write-off already and I haven't even reach the twenty20 games yet! And my overseas Lonwabo Tsotsobe is injured yet again, having a further 4 weeks out with a back strain. :(

Even after me coming all the way to the 2051 season, none of my batsmen ever got 6 boundaries in an over...but in my 2051 season, opener John Gow came close to that feat.....and missed out....:rolleyes

Just done the impossible and actually lost to Northamptonshire in a Twenty Over Cup game :( They won it by 10 runs. I also realised, that in the midst of sorting my England squad out in the winter, in the domestic contracts I forgot to sign a twenty20 specialist! :( :(

Finished the 2015 domestic season, and it was a disappointing season with me missing most of it through International duty, and I took Mitchell and Ali with me so we had a hugely undervalued squad. For England though it was a great summer, with me winning the Test and ODI series against both Bangladesh and Pakistan. After the World Cup has finished I will give up the England job however, to concentrate on Worcs. Does anyone know if you can get the captaincy back if you resign from the national team job?

Edit: 2015 WC finished in a Quarter-Final defeat for England against Sri Lanka, and I decided to call time on the international captaincy for now. I need to focus on having a decent run in one of the one-day competitions and also going for promotion in the County Championship. In the contracts section, I decided to let Ben Cox, Neil Pinner and Greg Wainwright go, with Gareth Andrew retiring. In came: Geraint Jones, Lonwabo Tsotsobe (overseas), Andrew McDonald (T20 only) and a few prospects from the youth team.
