ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat will announce the short-lists for this year’s LG ICC Awards in New Delhi on Monday 8 September.

The short-lists for eight individual prizes, including a new one for the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year, will be revealed in the Ganga Jamuna Room, Shangri La Hotel, in New Delhi at 1230 (India time).

The short-lists for the men’s awards have been compiled after votes were submitted by a 25-person panel from around the world, made up of renowned former players, respected members of the media, and an elite umpire and elite match referee. The panel members were asked to vote for players nominated by a Selection Panel chaired by former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd.

I reckon those 3 are certain.

I bet you ICC awards are the crappiest sporting awards you’d ever se.

I have to admit, I'm quite gutted Southee isn't nominated for emerging player.

Those other four have had a fantastic year, though. I'd be disappointed if Morkel won it, I can see promise in him, but I didn't think he was "all that" on SA's tour.

Well I think Nominations are purely because of their statistics throughout the year but again it doesn't make logic in all cases.
Like,
for cricketer of the year,Smith is leading run scorer in past 12 months in Test Matches where Styen has been leading wicket taker. Also Chadrapaul has the average of 101 in test matches in 2008 so far.But again I am not sure that Jayawardene might got support of his excellent captaincy or not? though he has scored with an average of 60 in test Matches,He has been ordinary in ODIs.

Now If we look at Emerging player of the year then I don't think stats are needful for selection of Mendis.Broad has been excellent in ODIs and picked up 25 wickets with average of 21.36.Now regarding to remaining Nominations they all are close. There is not any stat that purely proved their nominations.Like Morkel has been good in ODI and has been average in Tests where Southee has got same record(in terms of average and wicket per inning)as Morkel but was average in ODIs.
Also they should have included Kulasekra in some of the category as He has been impressive in ODIs and got better record in ODIs than Ishant.

So the selection is a bit tricky as it doesn't reflect the stats completely.
